Hey guys,

I'm having a serious connectivity issue with my wired Internet connection. It keeps dropping every couple minutes. I get a red X over the network icon in the tray and it says "not connected - no connections available". When I do a ping test I get "general failure" about three times in a row, good ping and then general failure again. I have tried many fixes. These include:

uninstalled - re-installed and updated the NIC driver
TCP/IP reset
Safemode
Firewall/security suite - removed
Cable and router are OK - tested on laptop
Wireless adapter - works fine

My info:

1. Wired connection issue

2. My ISP is Flow/Columbus Communications (I'm in Trinidad and Tobago)

3. It is a cable broadband connection

4. My router is an Arris TG862

5. I am running Avira Free Antivirus and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware Home

6.

Try downloading Linux Mint MATE and creating a bootable DVD/USB. Boot with it (no installation needed) and see if wired is alright.

So I found a solution.

I went into the properties tab on the network adapter

Clicked on the "Advanced" tab

Selected "Energy Efficient Ethernet" from the "Property" list

And disabled it under the "Value" tab.

Problem solved.

The default for that setting is enabled, so something must have got corrupt on your side. Glad you got it sorted though. :)
