SOLVED: Wired/Wireless both can conncet but no internet

I have tried wired and wireless, and both will say connected (sometimes they will say limited access but only for a short period) but the internet will not work.

However, sometimes I will have internet access but for 30 seconds, other times for 10 hours, and sometimes none at all. It is extremely frustrating.

The setup is a bit convoluted: From the cable modem first is Vonage, then a TPLink wired router, then a D-link wireless.

I have tried wireless, wired to TPLink and wired to D-link. All present the exact same problem.

Sometimes it will just drop periodically (the access to the internet, windows says the connection is stable).

Any thoughts?

Thanks,
Rovsky

I am going to assume that you lan (pc's etc) are working but not internet. If so I will bet its a DNS problem. Does vonage provide you internet service? I have vonage but they dont provide inet. could you type cmd in search and run ping. I would like you to ping msn.com, or google.com. If it fails its dns. you probably need to put the default dns servr in the routers.

Let me know how it turns out. I have subscribed to this thread so anytime something is posted I will get email.

I can connect to the network printer (haven't tried printing anything but im pretty sure itll work if i can connect to it).

No vonage does not provide internet, Comcast does (a coax goes into the modem before the vonage box).

Oddly, the issue is only with my system. We have an xp box, a macbook pro, and iPod touch that connects fine.

I am at work now, but when i get home i will try to ping but i think you are right in that it is a dns issue. However how do i solve it?

Oh and even though it says connected, when I do the windows troubleshoot, first it asks for me to restart my modems/routers then it says there is a connection issue somewhere between my access points...

SOLVED!

Strange situation which i cannot explain but here is what the fix was:

along with the D-link wireless there is another wired router (trendnet tw-100) and for whatever reason, having the trendnet connected to the d-link confused win7 networking so i disconnected the trendnet and everything works perfectly.

I discovered the issue when trying to log into the router setting: if i go to 192.168.0.1 when i dont have internet i get to the trendnet login instead of the d-link login.

anyways, if anyone has any thoughts on whats going on, feel free to chime in.
