Solved Wireless Ad Hoc network does not connect

I am having two laptops.
Both have wifi and i want to successfully connect them to share files at a good descent speed.
Few days ago i was able to connect both laptops successfully but was not able to share file as it said, network path does not exists.
connected successfully with same settings such as
WORKGROUP NAME
VALID IP ADRESS
VALID DEFAULT GATEWAYS
but now i am not able to connect as it says "WINDOWS IS UNABLE TO CONNECT"
it shows the preferred ad hoc name and signal strength as "Excellent".
need a specific guide to connect them successfully.
also i should be able to transfer files from 1 laptop to another.
is there any alternative other than ad hoc network.
Reply needed urgently.

If you have a home router (Default gateway) and then connect both devices to the router you should be able to create a folder on one device and then configure sharing on it so that the other laptop can access it remotely. I believe that if the Op had a router there would be no need to create an Ad Hoc network in the first place. If the Ad Hoc network is set up correctly you should definitely be able to shared files between those machines provided that you have turned on Network Discovery and File and Printer sharing in the Advanced Sharing settings.

Try reinstalling the drivers for wireless if you are having problems. It's also required that both machines are using a WHQL Windows certified driver that comes with the Msoft Virtual WiFi miniport driver. This should be showing up in Device Manger.

Or you could try using the virtual router software.

Or you could try using the connectify software for this although they have become way too commercialized for me.

True, but they said that the devices had valid default gateways which would be a router

Not always and it would be beyond reason to set up an Ad Hoc network if you already had a router.

Ad Hoc is so lame anyway, it's right up there with ICS in my book. :sarc:

I always thought default gateways were routers as it tells the machine how to communicate to devices not on its subnet - Default gateways: TCP/IP

For the OP when I say router I mean the hybrid boxes that ISPs give out which normally does wireless and switching capabilities then again there are exceptions

Ad hoc has always been tempermental with me but maybe that's just because I don't entirely know how to configure or use one I'll just stick to the old fashion switch....

Yes these temporary Ad Hoc networks aren't stable at all which is why they aren't officially supported but I guess if you only had a modem or needed to move some files between devices it might come in handy in some cases. ICS is another accident waiting to happen.

The last guy had to reinstall the drivers to get his Ad Hoc working again.

Found A solution !!!!!

Those all the settings of mine were correct,
and i didn't have router to connect both the laptops through them,
but in fact when i found that using a crossover cable i was able to connect but the discovery was not possible,
then i did some trial and error,
like i changed the ip's again to make them in same network
after that i did restart them and checked that all options are enabled on both laptops at the same time,
even the small check box can affect the network connectivity, which i had ::ON 1 LAPTOP THE IPV6 WAS TICKED WHILE ON OTHER IT WAS NOT::
and i just gave THE DEFAULT GATEWAY FROM 1 LAPTOP OF THE OTHERS & kept the others default gateway as blank, and it worked,
i was able to share files and transfer them at great speed,
also i transferred a game and created a LAN game play it was laggless gaming experience .

And yea Ad-hoc seems to be UNSTABLE

Yea from my personal experience i think that ad hoc network is not as stable in certain conditions,
it has a lots of up and downs
so it will be an better option to buy an crossover cable in any conditions rather than the time you spend on troubleshooting it.
So go for a crossover cable and it wont cost much also and you can carry around also if you dont have an extra mass storage with you.
SO WHO EVER READS THIS POST TRY TO AVOID AD HOC UNTIL IT NEXT VERSION.
