Wireless adapter on 64 Bit

Hey guys.

I've been using windows 7 32 bit for quite awhile now. But i really want to use the 64 bit windows. However i face the problem that right after my wireless installation, i am unable to get windows to recognise my wireless adapter. As such i cant install the driver and since i lack the internet, i am unable to run windows driver update, so i cant search for the driver online. any ideas how i can solve this problem other than buying a new wireless adapter? im using a linksys wireless- G, model No: WUSB54G, wireless adapter

Ok, I have the WMP54G PCI model and I know that the chipset is an RT61 by Ralink. I would recommend uninstalling the device/software and remove the drivers (if any) and use Unknown Devices to find out what chipset your Wireless card is. More that likley, its a Ralink. Lemme know what you find.

yeps. i checked its a WUSB54G V4 with Ralink RT2500 Drivers. is that good or bad? O.O

@silly man. My modem is really far from my room, and my mother wont allow me to run a cable all the way into my room sadly, so im only left with the option of using wireless...

Ok, since it is a Ralink RT2500 chipset, just go to Ralink's website and download the RT2500 USB driver package. Install just the drivers. Then go to Start, Right click on Computer, and then select Manager. Once in there, go to Device Manager. Double click the device and click Install Driver, Update Driver (I'm at work on Linux so I'm doing this a lot from memory) Once there Go to Browse me computer for driver software, then, Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer. Select network adapter, click next. Select Ralink Corp (there might be two, you'll have to look at the available devices for both but I think its the first one) and select the chipset on the right. Click next. Windows will promt you to make sure you want to install it although it can't verify of something. Go ahead and install. This should at least get it online so you can then do a windows update for the device and get the WinUpdate drivers. Remember to reboot after you install the WinUpdate drivers.

Hope that at least gets you online. Word of warning though, on Ralink's website, Win7 doesn't show that it's supported yet for your device. There are not even Vista drivers for the RT2500USB. You might need a new adapter since Ralink usually produces the drivers and supplies the Wifi card manufacurer with the software source to build their own driver.

What version do you own? Look at the model number - it will be at the end, like this:

WRT54G ver 6

(Of course, your model number is not WRT54G - that's just an example.)

Glad that wasn't a snake....

Linksys provides 32 bit Vista drivers for version 4, but no 64 bit drivers at all.

@ mrthomasbeckwit - if you want to use your USB adapter with 7, you'll need to stick with the 32 bit version.

I have the same as you have. it took me hours to find out the solution to have this adapter work. I hate Linksys for ignoring thousands of users which are begging for windows7 64 bit drivers.....

I was unable to even get Win 7 32 bit going with the same adapter, same version, with ralink drivers. No go. Again, is there ANY recommendation on what to buy? No HCL for Win 7 that I see, and no advertising about Win 7 compatibility.

Airlink 300N works fine (Windows7 even recognize the adapter so no driver installed needed).
I heard many of DLink products do support 64bit but haven't done much researches yet.

This is the install driver fix for Windows 7 - 32 and 64 Bit. The driver is in windows, it just doesn't know it's there.

Control Panel --> System and Security --> System --> Device Manager --> network adaptors --> (left click) network device (should be broken from tree already) --> select "Update Driver Software"

Now..

Select "Browse my computer"
Select "Let me Pick"
Look down the list - Select - Ralink Technology INC. (there are 3 ralink, you want the last)
Find - Ralink 2500 Wireless (should be 5th from bottom)

And your done!
That worked for me on Win 7 64 Bit.

There is no reason this shouldn't work for any other brand also.

Download your drivers from RALINK Ralink corp. and follow this tutorial: http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/75112-ralink-based-belkin-network-adapters-install.html (I know it says Belkin but the principle should be the same)

Had to use win7 32 bit to get my Linksys Wusb54GS going. No 64bit drivers out there. At least for Hardware version 1.0

My method works for 64bit and 32 bit, not sure why you didnt try that.
