Wireless Authentication?

I am trying to access my wireless network at home and receive the following window when Win 7 finds my network.

NETWORK AUTHENTICATION
I receive a login box. What is it looking for? Router name and password? Windows login Info?
Is this something Microsoft fixed in a latest update? I have not done any updates.

I would think it's asking for the 'key' string that was setup on your wireless network to control access. Not the username or password to the router itself, but a WEP, WPA, or WPA2 pass key string/phrase that is configured into the router.

To keep the bad guys from stealing your wireless signal, you need to secure it. You enter a code into the computer and an identical code into the wireless router so they can communicate but others can't listen in.

To do this, open "Network and Sharing Center" and find "Manage Wireless Networks".

Then right click the wireless network name and select the "Encryption type:", preferably WPA2-Personal, then type a security key you make up.

Now go to your Router and select the same "Encryption type" and enter the same key you put into your computer. They should be able to communicate securely now.

If you have questions about your router, please identify the manufacturer and model and post back.
