wireless connection keeps dropping

hi, i got a new laptop with windows 7 and am connecting it to the internet wirelessly through my bebox. i connect my desktop pc the bebox wired ethernet - no problems.

the laptop keeps dropping connection all the time.

i think the problem is - when the connection drops, down at the bottom right hand corner, the internet icon (signal strength bars) gets a yellow exclamation mark over it and it says no internet access to bebox.

there are 2 other connections in the pop up box - sky and netgear.

i think these are neighbours' wireless boxes being picked up wirelessly. they both have poor connection (one bar) however, the sky connection has 'connect automatically' ticked and when i untick it and go back to it - its ticked again. i cant get the tick away.

i think the laptop keeps trying to connect to this sky connection wen i click on a new webpage.

i cant find the actual connection to go into properties etc like in XP. i can only access it in the pop up box down at the bottom right of the desktop.

does anyone know how to fix this, or how can i delete they sky and netgear connections from the laptop? (and stop them coming back)

any help would be much appreciated, thanks.

Change the router radio channel until it stops. US=11 channels, Europe=13

Start at 1, try 11(13) next.

This will most likely disable Super-G 108 mbps if you're using that by defaulting to 54 mbps.

how do i do that?

is there no way i could delete the 2 rogue connects manually or modify it like in XP?

or this that the only way, how do i change the channel then?

i find the windows 7 interface complicated, its set up in wizards for muppets. cant seem to config it as much...

thanks.

the wireless is playing up again, can anyone help?

i went to manual and went through all 12 channels and it picks up the same persons wireless on ALL 12 channels.

this and another connection i believe is causing the problems because i cant untick 'connect automatically' on them and it keeps disconnecting me and trying their connection.

is there anything i can do? all the channels are really congested.

cant i block these neighbours connections somehow?

if i could keep the tick removed from the other connections, i think my problem would be solved. there are 5 or 6 other connections it picks up and they all but one keep the tick in place when you go back to it after unticking...

thanks for any help.

Try running with SSID Broadcast turned off in the router. Then set the adapter on the computer to manually look for the SSID.

This way, someone will need Linux to even begin to attempt to hack your router. And with WPA2, it will never happen anyway.

? i dont think that is the problem...

i am picking up loads of neighbours wireless connections on my laptop. on all channels. i cant get the tick removed from the 'connect automatically' box in the other connections i am picking up. and it keeps switching to other connections, probably when their signal becomes stronger than mine (which happens a lot)

i dont have a problem with people trying to hijack my wireless.

you can download inssider and see what other networks are interfering with yours, then you can judge what channel best suits you.
