So I'm pretty much out of ideas at this point and spent the better part of the last two days trying to figure out this issue with no success. What had happen is I had a issue with a hard drive on my ASUS G74x Laptop.. The sectors on the hard drive where bad an I knew that about a month after buying the computer. What I had done was copy the whole content of the the primary hard drive over to the second empty drive on the laptop. I had the original hard drive replaced and was able to boot my OS from the second hard drive I copied the content of my main drive to. I didn't have any issues at all would boot fine everything worked it didn't detect a USB devices at first but then I updated the drivers and was able to pick up my USB devices with no issues.

The only problem that I'm having at this point is that my wireless card isn't working.. It shows bottom right of my screen near the time/date shows the wireless signal bar with a red X over it. What I had done thinking that it wasn't picking up the drivers so i went to the ASUS site that supports my drivers and downloaded all that i could find in regards to the wireless. I tried installing them more than a few times and was unable to install the WIFI Intel drivers but the WIMAX drivers would install. Anytime that I tried to install the driver it would install or attempt to install i would hear a confirmation sound from the computer like the wireless was instated then i would hear a sound like it was disconnected then a message would follow on the install Error 2417? (not sure exactly what the number was) But then it would say rolling back installation and would give a message that it had failed. Any ideas? I'm burnt on this one and spent the last 12 hours beating myself up over not being able to figure it one out..

Is there a switch on your laptop to turn on the wireless card? If so, please make sure that it is switched to on.

There is no switch on the actual computer from what i can tell.. its handled by a funtion key so "FN+F2" should turn on and off the wireless it wont even show it being enabled or disabled, even after i had installed the ASUS Utility that supports the function key. Sorry im working my support job right now so I dont have my PC I may be able to provide better refrences when im able to get my hands on my laptop.. Hope that VTO is given today cause I just wanna get this issue taken care of. Any other ideas? Like I had mentioned I had downloaded all the wireless drivers that where listed online and none of them where able to install.. they showed like they where installing would get about 75% and then it would roll back the install and show that the driver install failed.

Uninstall any wireless adapter drivers in your control panel and also uninstall your wireless adapter in device manager.

Restart Windows and wait for it to detect your wireless adapter then install the updated driver from Asus.

It's quite possible your current installation is corrupted somehow.

You may want to update your chipset drivers as well.

Thanks for the help, last night I tried everything that was listed with no success so I just went with a fresh install of windows.. No problems installing the drivers so I think that it could have been that the copy of my main HD to the second on my machine may have ran into some issues when I moved the content to the second. No more issues running a clean install of windows and my computer couldnt be more happy. Thanks again.

You're very welcome.

A fresh install is time-consuming, but when it solves your problem, it's time well spent.

Thanks for the update.
