Wireless HDD

I'm looking to invest in a wireless HD to make my 'Media-Sharing' life sooo much easier.

My question is 'Does anybody already own 1?' and 'Are they much cop?'

Information seems pretty scarce at the minute so i'm guessing it's a VERY new technology.

Any feedback is great and may help others decide too

You just don't too much from anybody on these since they are mainly intended for portable application. In fact I just ran into one article on connecting a ubs external hard drive to a wireless router. How to Connect a USB External Hard Drive to a Wireless Router | eHow.com

I'm reading the PCWORLD and there is a test about it.
The say the best is the Popcorn Hour MNT A-110. It has optional external WiFi.

Jeff if you want to stream HD then forget the wireless option and get it cabled.

I tried setting my linksys DMA2200 wirelessly (802.11N) and it really sucked at HD compared to wired.

Cheers John, my current setup is this...


-> External HD (USB) Setup to broardcast wirelessly
Laptop (ME)
-> HD TV (Only S-Video )

Laptop & Computer, both neighbours, access to my Shared External Hard Drive

The idea of a wireless HD would be great (speed permitting) as i don't want to keep my laptop on as others are accessing my HD, but at least it works for now

This couldn't be a more true statement when it comes to streaming HD video. I have 2 external 1TB Western Digital drives via USB that don't have a problem streaming 2 HD shows while recording another, but I wouldn't want to try that with a wireless HDD.

Just let that drive hiccup while it's recording my wifes soap operas . . .

I'll be sticking with hard wired here whether internal, usb, or eSata. There's simply too much probablility of data corruption simply with any IF or RF interference for a start. Then the noise factor comes in when the signal strength tends to vary.
