I can't get the wireless to work, it says connected but limited access and when I checked out the ip addresses it is different than what it should be i.e 169.234. instead of 192.168 what should I do?

Hi Steph. You have given very little information about your computer, wireless devices, Internet access devices like a modem or router so that makes it very difficult to help you.

I can tell you this from your post: The IP address that starts with 192.168 is a local network address ONLY. It does not point to any website or anything outside the local wireless network. That address allows a "Router" to recognize your wireless device and keep track of the data coming and going from your computer.

The other address: ie 169.234 is probably the IP address your service provider has assigned to the cable modem or whatever device is being used to connect you to the Internet. That address allows your service provider to keep track of the data coming and going from the cable modem.

So you need both addresses. Now if you can describe the hardware you are using with some detail, perhaps we can get you connected wirelessly?

Hint: at the bottom left is a button for "My System Specs". If you supply that information in your "User Control Panel", it will be available every time you post a question. Also it would help to know the brand and model of the router or cable modem or DSL modem supplied by your service provider.

Just wondering if the ip 169.234.x.x was a typo for 169.254.x.x the local nic addy
