I currently have a logitech wave wireless keyboard and mouse which keeps freezing up my computer running Windows 7 professional 64bit. Can someone advise me as to which is the most suitable combination of keyboard and mouse to suit my O. S. The Logitech is driving me crazy.

Hi bsquire and welcome to Windows 7 Forums

I don't use wireless myself, although a good many of us here do. The only thing that I can suggest is that you make sure that the drivers are up to date and the batteries are fully charged.

Have had conversations with Logitech, they were unable to resolve problem. The batteries are fine. This is the reason I am looking for a suitable alternative to Logitech. Thank you for replying.

I, too, am not happy with wireless keyboards and mice. I agree with Dwarf's suggestion, try Microsoft.

I have a wired Logitech Wave and I love it. My friend has the wireless version like you and has no problems at all with it at all. He loves it.
Have you tested the USB port you're plugging the dongle into or tried a different port. My friend has a USB port on the side of his monitor but I seem to recall it didn't work so well when it was plugged in at the back of his pc.

Also I have to agree with the other posts. wireless keyboards and mice are a hassle even when they work fine. Both the Logitech and Microsoft range are good imo.

Thanks guys. Have tried different USB sockets, have the transmitter on the desk via USB extension cable and no other wireless equipment to interfere with signal. Will get a Microsoft keyboard. Any advise on which is the best one?

you can't go wrong with thisL:

Microsoft Wired Keyboard 600 - Black: Amazon.co.uk: Electronics & Photo

it's cheap and it works

or this is quite similar to the Wave in shape

Microsoft Comfort Curve Keyboard 2000: MICROSOFT: Amazon.co.uk: Computers & Accessories

or you can get solid aluminium keyboards, ones that have illuminated keys etc.
Just check out any good retailers keyboard section but I would advise going to a store and getting your hands on the one you fancy. Some of them look good in th pictures but feel cheap or have a poor action in reality. cheers, j

MS

I had trouble with Logitech. I threw it in the trash. Bought a set by MS. Works fine. Take a look.

Wireless Desktop 3000

You can get it cheaper than what is show here.

How do you know your keyboard and mouse are freezing your computer and the problem is not your computer freezing with the symptoms being your keyboard and mouse no longer work? Have you tried any other keyboard or mouse?

***

When wireless keyboards and mice first came out, I wasted a bunch of money on them - they were all junk, IMO. But over time, they got better and since last August, I've been using MS Wireless Mouse 5000 and Wireless Comfort Keyboard 5000.

That said, I still keep a wired keyboard and mouse connected too (my desk has a nice shelf underneath) and they came in handy when the batteries died. Even if you don't keep a wired keyboard connected, you should always have one handy - just in case.

When I bought them they were for a computer running XP, it was the change to a new computer running 7 that started the problem. When I remove Setpoint from the computer it causes no problems but I lose the additional functions of the keyboard and mouse which I do use. I can check to see what the 5000 spec is, one question, does it show on screen when you have caps on and off. If the answer is affirmative I will order one. Many thanks.

does it show on screen when you have caps on and off.
For about 3 seconds, then it fades out. Same with Num lock and Scroll lock.

And to be sure, you did install the 64-bit, Windows 7, Ver 6.15.25 of Setpoint dated 7/20/2010, right?

Have ordered the Microsoft 5000. The Logitech software was the latest for the 64bit version. Thanks for your help, looking forward to the new keyboard and mouse.
