Wireless laptop and NAS drive IP conflicts

Hi,

Laptop: HP DV6000 series with Intel wireless 4965AGN
Router: Linksys WRT160N version 1
Devices on network: laptop, lacie-d2 NAS, xbox 360.

I have been having the intermittent lost wireless connectivity that many other people have suffered from ever since I installed Windows 7 (not complete connectivity, but just losing access to the gateway etc.).

After troubleshooting it looked to me like a problem with ip address conflict problems even though everything is on dhcp and I can't actually find a conflict.

I think I have finally traced it to a problem with my Lacie-D2 network attached storage drive, which is running on DHCP and is plugged into the router. When I leave that off it is fine, but when I turn it on the problem comes back even though there is no apparent conflict.

Only affects wireless - when i'm plugged into the router it's fine.

Anyone know anything about this? Could it be the multimedia server aspect of the NAS? Could it be my linksys access point can't handle Windows 7 and all it's fancy media server junk?

Alright I have fixed this for you....

To access the Administration Page with a browser:
In your browser’s URL (web address) field, type one of the following:
Mac users: http://lacie-d2.local. (Fig. 27) PC users: http://lacie-d2 (Fig. 27)

Please Log into your device... We are going to change some of the settings for you.

I think that you have your NAS device on a DHCP so we are going to be smart about this
and give it a static IP address...

I need you to open up your "cmd" under the RUN command

type in: ipconfig
You will see something in your text file that saids
DEFAULT GATEWAY: something like 192.168.2.1 or 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.0.1

This is very important.

I need you to do is go here:
http://www.lacie.com/download/manual/d2Network_en.pdf

download this and go to PAGE 38. You have to go here so we are on the same page
as your device so that you can change the settings on your device.

You are going to UNCHECK the automatic IP from DHCP server
(you can put whatever you want but this is just example)

In your IP Address: 192.168.2.10
Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
Gateway: 192.168.2.1

The DNS and WINS just use the same as Gate way...

Okay remember when i told you to get the gate way...

Here is the deal it will be little different.. LIke mines is 192.168.2.1
Maybe your third set of numbers (2) will be different. you have to match all your computers
the same with that number. The last set of numbers is the identifyer to mark each computer.

make sure you do use the first two though 192.168
The subnet will be (most likely): 255.255.255.0

Gateway: will always be the : 192.168.***.1 so ONE (1) is registered for the gateway

Just save the settings to your NAS and reboot it; with that fixed, you shouldn't have any problems with your wireless now.

Thanks for the response. I had tried the fixed IP address thing before (it actually started at a fixed IP and i moved it to dhcp to try to solve the problem).

I've since tried every single older driver version for the intel wireless card and found one that seems to have stopped the issue...

Hi jbj500, how sure are you with this conflict of IP being the cause.

If you go into the router control panel, can you look at the MAC clone tab. What's showing in there?

Could it be a router setting issue?

Yeah, this doesn't sound like a IP conflict problem due to DHCP, which is rare to begin with. Sounds more like a hardware issue. Try changing the Channel and see what happens.
