Hi, in my other thread I mentioned that my D-Link DIR-615 B2 router is crapping out on me. I'm connected, but randomly cannot surf pages a few times a day, unless I either uplug the router or do an ipconfig /release or /renew.

I see alot of people actually hated my 615 :o I'm currently looking at a D-Link DIR-655 to replace my dying router.

- How are Belkins? If good, which models would you recommend?

- I know alot of people like Linksys. I had an old WRT54G that burnt out...see alot of people complain about the same thing with the newer ones...

- Is the D-Link DIR-655 good? It seems to have positive reviews, and I see there is a new Revision B out, how is the new model and firmware?

Is there any other Router you would suggest?

Hello Arash,

The D-Link 655 has gotten pretty good reviews at Newegg.

Newegg.com - D-Link DIR-655 802.11b/g/n Xtreme N Gigabit Wireless Broadband Router up to 300Mbps/ USB port x1/ Intelligent QoS Technology for Gaming

You can read more about what folks think about the DIR-655 at D-Link's forum below as well to get a better idea about the firmware and more.

I personally use the DIR-855, and it's wireless feature has been rock solid for me.

Whichever one you get, be sure to update it with the latest firmware.

Hope this helps some,
Shawn

Yes the D-Link is on the top of my list, but I've recently been looking at the Netgear N600 WNDR3700. It's got some fantastic reviews, but is more pricey.

One reason I'm not sure about getting another D-Link is I've seen complaints about the firmware updates.

How is Netgear's stability and firmware?

I'm going to be switching to cable ISP next month, the Netgear is a gigabit port router.

Teksavvy (or any other Canadian ISP for that matter) doesn't offer gigabit speeds, so I shouldn't have to worry about upgrading my 10/100 ethernet card to gigabit yet right?

I've been using the Cisco e3000 lately and haven't had too many problems. I like being able to seperate the network traffic through the e3000. ex: iphone/ipad network 2.4Ghz | Laptop 5Ghz 300 mpbs capped | LAN Based

I don't know about how stable that particular Netgear model is or not, but here is a link to it's forum page to help see what others say about it.

Our DIR-615 B2 crapped out as well, it would lock up the network and we would have to power it down then power it back up.
We replaced it with a Cisco E2000. I then tried to use the DIR-615 as a wireless access point, but it would lock up the network after an hour or so.

We did get quite a few good years from the Dlink though, so I am not complaining.
