Hello,

I am trying to install driver for TP Link : TL-WN821N, but it says that Wireless network adapter is not detected. When I try to install the driver via Device manager, it says that no driver was found.

Would appreciate any help!

One thought: newer PCs have USB 3 ports. Do not use these for the wireless adapter. Find a USB 2.0 port to use.

Do you hear the USB device connected sound when you plug the adapter in?

Give this a try:

  • Remove any previous adapter software installation
  • Remove the adapter
  • Optional: (If available, Restore Windows to a date before the first install attempt.)
  • Turn the PC off. Wait one minute.
  • Turn the PC on > wait until desktop fully loads
  • Plug in the adapter > wait for it to be detected > "Windows can't find driver..." > OK
  • Now install driver software.

Hello!

I hear the "USB device connected sound", but it's not the "finished sound" (if you know what I mean). I am pretty sure my PC doesn't have USB 3 port and when i go to device manager it says that it is USB2.0 WLAN.

However, I tried in every single port, and the same thing happens.. When I try to install the driver, it says that the wireless adapter is not detected.

So Windows and your system see the device fine, but the installer does not.

Check to be sure that you have the correct driver for the device (for your version of windows - 32 or 64 bit), and if you are trying to install from the CD, then go to the device manufacturer's website and see if there is a more current download available. You could be just dealing with defective media.

I assume you have tried all the steps mentioned above. That raises the possibility that the wireless device is not working.
Was this device working previously?

Can you try and install this on another computer? If the problem follows the device then it indicates the device is defective.

Wierd, but I borrowed a CD disk with a driver for the same version of the adapter. I don't know why, but it worked & everything is fine now. I guess the new drivers are defective or something.. no idea.

It's more common than you think. Poor download, scratched DVD, all kinds of things can happen.
Glad you got it solved.
