Wireless not working after Windows 7 upgrade

I have an HP Pavilion dv7-1135nr laptop which I just upgraded to Windows 7 from Vista. Everything worked very smoothly until I noticed that my wireless adaptor doesn't work. Nothing I have tried allows me to get it working. the Adaptor is a Atheros AR5007 802.11b/g WiFi Adapter. If I go to the hardware devices, it indicates that it is working properly. The device indicates that it is getting a strong signal. ANY IDEAS or RECOMMENDATIONS?

kegobeer,
I have a "button" above the keyboard which allows me to "enable" and "disable" the wireless. I didn't notice it immediately since I normally have my laptop connected to LAN but last night, about 6 hours after installing wndows 7, I disconnected the LAN to take my computer downstairs. I pushed the ENABLE Wirelss button and it remained Red (disabled). I then began to investigate several approaches
1. Hit Wirelss Assistant which indicated that the status was DISABLED and it didn't allow me to enable it.
2. Control Panel -Network and Internet - Network Sharing Center - Manage Wireless Networks.....again could not get it to be enabled. In each case, I would again try to hit the wireless button above the keyboard just to see if I had "unstuck" something. didn't work.
3. going though above sequence again and Hit "Troubleshoot Problems", Network adaptor, "wireless". It went through the process of analyzing the wireless settings, etc and came back with the following statement:
"Wirelss capability is turned off" Status: Not fixed"

Does that help at all?

This happened to me once, but I don't think it's the same issue - my wifi worked until I disabled it via my keyboard switch. I couldn't enable it, so I went to the device manager, disabled it, enabled it, and then I was reconnected.

Did wireless ever work for you? Did you install any wifi drivers, or did Windows 7 do it for you?

Regarding using Wireless before, yes, I am a heavy computer user and go back and forth from LAN to wireless several times a day. I've had this laptop for over a year and never had any problems. It seemed to be caused by some conflict with the new Windows 7 upgrade. Window 7 did a very smooth upgrade from my Vista. I didn't have to do anything at all. There were a couple of drivers that needed to be updated but even those were done by the Upgrade.

You are right. I didn't install anything else. The windows 7 upgrade was VERY clean. It kept all of the programs, even kept my desktop exactly the same.

you havent mentioned performing hard reset.
how about removing anything connected to your laptop including the ac adpater and the battery. then without anything connected, press and hold the power button for 30 second.
hope it helps

Folks,
Thanks for all of your input. Just to be helpful, I'll answer some of the additional questions raised BUT on the positive side, Windows did an automatic update last night and this morning my Wireless now works. Go figure.

I had NOT tried a Hard Reset as recommended last night. That might have helped. Wireless had never worked with the new Windows 7 installation so I was quite certain that something in the upgrade was the cause.

Whatever it was, it has now fixed itself with the Windows 7 UPdated loaded last night..... Thanks to all for the input.
