Printer Server for Windows 7

For anyone who gets frustrated by Linksys or other brand print servers under Windows 7, try the Netgear WGPS606. Fastest & easiest setup I've ever experienced under any operating system.

Care to tell me how you did this. I am having the same problem and can't figure it out. I can print through the print server with my 2 notebooks which have xp. And can print a test page when I access the print server through my browser from within windows 7. Example - open browser, access print server via ip address. Do a print test page via this and it works. But when I right click on the printer and try to do a test page nothing prints.

Thanks,

Mike

I too would like to know how you were able to solve the problem. I get an error message when trying to load the software that say "OS Not Supported" I contacted Linksys support via live chat and was told they don't have a wireless print server that is supported by Windows 7. No upgrade driver available for my WPSM54G. No idea when they might have it or if they will.

I need to know too. I tried configuring it every which way on both my laptops with windows 7 and neither works! I have to use my mini to print now and its very inconvenient.

I tried to install new printer - tcpip port, and yet doesn't work

I've had the same problem with a linksys WPSM54G Print Server. I returned it. The Netgear PS, WGPS606 is not compatible with my printer, a Canon MP830.

Does anyone know of another print server that would work with Windows 7?

Using WPSM54G (Wireless PrintServer) with Windows 7

Despite what the 13-year-old says, getting the WPSM54G to work with Windows 7 doesn't take much time.

If you can find or figure out the IP address of your Priner Server, you're half way there. All you need to do is use the Windows 7 Add a New NETWORK, WIRELESS or BLUETOOTH Printer wizard.
-Click stop as it searches for a printer, then click The printer that I want wasn't found.
-Choose Add a TCP/IP address
-Select Device type: TCP/IP Device
-Enter the IP address, Click Next
-Click Custom and Next
-Choose your printer from the list, Next
-Choose which version of the driver you want to use, Next
-Enter a name (Add "- Wireless" if you plan to keep the original direct connect option), Click next
-Click Next to share the printer
-Print a test page from the wizard
THEN, print a page from another program being sure to change your printer selection to the new wireless option you just created.

Best of luck

I have 1 desktop and 2 laptops on my home network via a Belkin N+ Router. The XPS Gen 1 laptop W& Pro 32 uses a Belkin N wireless PCMCIA card, the Alienware M17x W7 Pro 64 uses the onboard Broadcom wireless N card and the 435T-9000 XPS W7 Ultimate 64 uses a Belkin N+ USB adapter. The Canon MP 830 and HP 4L are all connected to the Belkin USB Network Hub and are shared by the 3 PC's and work well w/o issues.

You have to set it up with an IP adddress and you can only set up one printer. Go to http://linksys.custhelp.com and type "LPR" or go to article ID: 16329. You should also set it up as a static IP address to prevent your router from reasigning the address.

If anyone finds a router that supports Win7, 64 bit and can handle two printer please post! Linksys appears to have no intention of addressing this.

NetGear WGPS606 and Multi Function Printer/Scanners

I have the NetGear WGPS606. I am using it with Windows 7 32-bit on one machine and Windows 7 64-bit on another machine. Using the supplied setup software was quick and easy on both computers. My problem is I am using a MFC and the scanner does not work. Does anyone know how to turn on the bi-directional capabilites of this server? If not, is there another one that supports multi-function printer/scanners?

WGPS606 printer server does it scan wireless or not? - NETGEAR Forums

According to netgear's own forum, it will not work with a scanner. They show a wireless print server that "might". Your best bet would be to sell your current printer and wireless print server, and purchase a all-in-one that has wifi built-in (like the HP C7200 series.)

Canon MX870, best printer ever and was easy to set up the wireless connection using the walkthrough on the CD. No printer server required. It also has an eithernet port. I had to search all over for a printer that had drivers that were actually made for Windows 7, what a difference that makes.

USB printers,...never again.
