Wireless printer problem

My friend has Win 7 connected to a wireless 3-in-1 printer, and she wants me to look at it. I have a wired network and don't know too much about wi-fi. She can scan and print, but not print from the computer, which sounds to me like the wi-fi isn't working. If I see the printer on the network, is that enough, or do i need to look for something in addition?

OK, and then I just have to a share it on the network? Anything else? Because if the network doesn't see it, I won't know what to do.

It should ask you to enter the keycode to the network your connecting to. You did not say make and model of printer

Provided her husband didn't take the code with him when he passed away in March.

Don't know, except that it's an Epson inkjet. I have to get the model # at her place, then find the driver. Not everyone's like me, keeping programs, OS's and drivers carefully filed in a desk drawer. Helping someone else is a double whammy: their computer is chaotic, and they haven't saved essential stuff that might help. I officially stopped tutoring after Win XP.

Thanks, Oscer

Make sure the computer and the printer are both on the same network. Most routers these days have two channels 2.4 GHz &5 GHz. In other words see if both are on the same channel. I have 4 channels plus one dedicated to the printer and media server.

uuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuhhhhhhhhhhhh I'm pretty sure her computers and routers are old. how do I check the channels? in 25 words or less.

(OT--I see you're a Pale Moon fan. Do they keep up with security updates? Is anyone maintaining it?)

Look at the wireless connection in the system tray. Left click and see which connection your connected to with the computer and check the properties of the printer and see which connection it is connected to. Must be on the same connection.

I have been using Palemoon since early 2011 and will never use Firefox ever again. Yes it is well maintained and has ALL security updates applied, some even before Firefox. Still uses what Mozilla now calls legacy extensions of which I have 97 installed. There are also very helpful support forums. If you still want to use a fully customizable browser then give it a try.

First things first - Printer brand and model number?

Routers can use 2 different frequency bands for wifi (2.5 & 5 Ghz) which are not channels. The 2.4Ghz band has 11 channels and the 5Ghz band has 45 channels available.

got it-- Epson Stylus CX7400. Today it started printing from the computer, but only docs, not pdf. I haven't gone over there yet. I'm wondering if the network goes on and off.

That's great. Her desk is such a mess that I couldn't see the wire. I'll post back after I go over there.
Does either of you know why it would print docs, but not pdf's? otherwise I'll hit my search engine.
