Going to buy a Wireless printer. Currently have two wireless laptops which will want to access this printer wirelessly. I realize that during printer setup I will have to physically connect the wireless printer to one of the laptops to load the software, set up sharing on both etc. My question is, after this is done and tested, will the printer have to be connected physically to either computer for either/both pc's to print wirelessly?
Many thanks gang

You will not have to be ethernet connected. Do you have a home network setup through a router? Once the printer is installed as a network printer, all devices on the network can access and use it.

Yes I have a home network setup with a wireless router. We currently do file sharing ok.
So you are saying that after setting up the printer, any/all of us can print to it with no wires/cables connected to it.
Again many thanks for your help

Hi johnnya,

Make sure that your wireless printer has a Static (Manual) IP configured if it's on DHCP, to be configured on the printer's Control Panel screen or via a Web interface thru the Printer's IP Address. The computers in your network (wired and wireless) may lose connection to the printer once the printer auto assigns a different IP Address after a reboot and these thing can happen.

If you need a detail assistance on how to setup your wireless printer properly please let us know.

For my wireless printer the only requirement was to install the drivers from the included CD.
I did have to go through the wireless set up in the printers control panel, just enter the SSID, password, security and encryption. They use wireless G for some reason but it works really well for me especially since my router and printer are in the same room.

No static IP was required for me, although you can also set up a DHCP reservation if you are worried about that, I can still print to the server even if the IP changes, no eithernet connection was required.

Be sure to check the printer manufacturer's support site for updated drivers. Many times, the drivers on the installation CD are outdated.

Very good point Mr. Jcgriff, I had to look long and hard for a printer that was actually made to work with Windows 7.

My Cannon MX870 printer had the drivers for Win 7 included on the CD which made the set up easier but in many cases you would need to go to the manufacture's site to get the updated drivers.

If you need a detail assistance on how to setup your wireless printer properly please let us know.

I would like some assistance.
I have a Kodak ESP9 All-in-one wirelessly connected to a Cisco Valet router. I cannot add it to the computer which is connected to the router by ethernet cable.
I have used the Add a printer wizard and selected the 'Bluetooth", etc. option. Can get no further.
