Searched the boards and can't find an answer for this problem. I am running Windows 7 Ultimate and I use Windows Live Mail as my default mail client. Every time WLM loads it "forgets" that I tuned off the Preview Pane. The Preview Pane has become a major PAIN@!%#$@^%#........ Any idea how to prevent the Preview Pain from coming back?

If you're sure you saved the selection properly, you could try a "repair" of "Windows Live Essentials" using "Programs and Features" "uninstall/change" option. You can also update to the latest version of Essentials by re-running the installer you originally downloaded.

I searched the net for a while longer then thought of the registry...... I went to
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows Live Mail] and deleted an entry called PreviewMessage (first backing up that key of course) and that did the trick! The reading pane (formerly known as the preview pane) is gone completely and no ill side effects.

Hi, RudeDawg.

Thanks for letting us know you solved the problem. It is good you backed up the key first. A very wise move since editing the registry can cause serious problems if you don't know what you're doing.
