Ok,the story so far :geek:
Fore about 1 month i have tried to get flac into my daily life and failed epicly due to the lack of support by windows :o

So i spotted a new format that is 100% MS and supported by WMP and Zune and better yet is looseles. Yay

Only after getting all hyped up about the solution i was confronted with other frustrations. :banghead:

so my first question is what is the difference between all the types of WMA formats, By that i mean what is the difference between 9.2, 9.2 lossless, 10 pro
and which one is better in terms of quality (i know it would be the lossless but why is the lossless 9.2, and is 10 pro any good)

Second i have a good portion of my music in flac format what would the best program to convert them to WMA (from my research i have found out that the two big names are dbpoweramp and switch, which do you prefer cause im confused about the options in switch (e.g how can i convert a 15 mb flac file to WMA and it would become 89mb while the flac compression in 59% and it says the compression for the WMA is 79% ??)

lastly what is the difference between constant bitrate and variable bitrate.

Thanks in advance!

I use Switch without any problems, but I convert to mp3 rather than to WMA. I can't really help you on the WMA questions.

Here is a decent explanation of CBR versus VBR:

Variable bitrate - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

VBR is generally preferred because the resulting files are smaller with no noticeable decrease in sound quality.

Hey,
guys i don't really want any alternatives to WMP and I moved on from flac.

So the remaining unanswered questions are:

What is the difference between the different types of WMA
Which is the best flac to WMP converter
