Try View Menu then Video Size then "fit player to video"

I've found SPlayer Portable to be good for most sources if the above setting doesn't work
SPlayer 3.7.2437 - VideoHelp.com Downloads

Note: make sure to search the page for "portable" as the installed version can have problems with associated video file types. It's just better to use the Portable version. Other than that, it's a nice player.

WMP isn't a "universal" video player in that it can't handle 100% of all videos out there. The version in Win7 is certainly very good but not perfect. Issues with aspect ratios are not uncommon, to be honest.

You might give VideoLan (aka "VLC") a shot. It's free, and is perhaps the most widely used and highly regarded 3rd-party free player out there. It's capable of playing formats WMP can't, and also playing some formats "correctly" whereas WMP can't.

Don't know what your "movies" are, and what form they're in. Where did you get them? Are they "copy-protected"? What "codec" was used to produce them? What is their "extension", i.e. MPG, AVI, MKV, MP4, VOB, TS, etc.?

Etc., etc., lots of relevant questions in order to suggest some way to "edit" them.
