I Currently have 468Gb worth of music,
The music is on a dedicated 1 TB WD 7200 RPM drive(sata)

Issues:
After a period of time(3-4 hours), WMP uses up 600 MB of Memory!!!!!?????
it continually scans and updates the media library. CPU load is never on 0 either. it continually jumps up and down. Media was loaded about a 2 weeks ago now, and i use the WMP everyday for at least 5 hours. however it is still taking up massive resources.
has anybody loaded this amount of music on wmp12 here?
if so what are wmp12 demands on system resources like?

do you have "Windows Media Player Network Sharing Service" up and running?

from blackviper: Shares Windows Media Player libraries to other networked players and media devices using Universal Plug and Play.

lots of people have reported high cpu/ram usage when this service is running. it is highly advised to disable it if you don't need it.

try disabling it using services.msc, and reboot, and see if your memory usage returns to normal.

good luck!

Already Disabled

Yep has been disabled.
In WMP11 when you added music to the library, you could do it two ways.
Select a folder to monitor and do it gradually(run in background)
Or you could select a folder and add it without running it in the background. (Progress windows would pop up, showing percentage complete)
Can this be done with WMP12?

Maybe this will help. I like wmp a lot, it masters a large library considerably better than any other player i know off, and can search much faster than any other aswell.

Ive loaded 180gb of music into my seperate drive similar to you. (1tb).
avge 70,000k memory (although once only had 40,000)
avge 3cpu

In options under library.
On the library tab, just untick all "auto media information updates..." but you can leave maintain star ratings on if you like.

This fixed a big chunk of memory for me.

(ps there was only 1 way of adding media to wmp11 using the second way you discribed, monitored folders is a much better way to go and i like it in wmp12)
