It says thats for windows XP, and the dl said it was x86. Will it work on my win7 x64?

furthermore, when I tried to install it I got this error,

Try this first:


Make sure that all instances of WMP are closed

Start> In search box type cmd> Right click on cmd.exe in results above and choose Run as administrator> If promped by UAC, accept

In command prompt type:

UNREGMP2.EXE /UPDATEWMPVERSION

And press enter

Restart WMP and see if error is gone.

It didnt do anything.


Although I did rename the old folder, just in case, to something else, and copied the x64 version, which seems to work into the x86 program files folder. Now it works.

Although i would still like to make the x86 version working again just to be safe. Can someone please zip up their folder and attach it for me?

Wow, I just tried it, and it still doesn't work.

You can try running the System File Checker

http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/1538-sfc-scannow-command-system-file-checker.html

It will however return any special skins to default. It will disable any 3rd party themes, but you can repatch to get them back.

Barring that, you can also try a Repair Install

WMP 12 isn't available anywhere (legit) for download. But the files are all on the install disc if you run a repair.

1. I don't have the CD.

2. Even if I did, it would remove the numerous .dll customizations I have.

You might also see if unchecking Windows Media Player in Windows Features and OK it, then check Windows Media Player and OK it to turn on/repair it to see if that may help.

If that does not help, then you might consider doing a system restore using a restore point dated before this error happened.
