WMP12 Refuses to get Organized

I've been trying to get my WMP library organized.

While I do use iTunes a majority of the time, I would like it if WMP could look nice as well.

Right now, it recognizes only a couple albums, complete with art and all artist/genre/track specs. But for nearly everything, it's all bunched in as "Unknown".
I try to update the information, because it's all organized within my iTunes folder in My Music (which is the folder that serves as the "Music" Library in WMP), but nothing is ever actually updated.

As well, I once had the album for Inception, which is one of the few separate albums that WMP recognizes. Problem is, I deleted it a long time ago. I tried deleting it off WMP, but it just remains there (even though it can't be played due to the actual file being deleted).

I've tried things like updating media info, but nothing seems to work.

Can anyone help me out?

Hi,
there's a good chance that your WMP libraries are corrupted. You can use the tutorial I wrote (the link is in my sig) to rebuild the libraries and see if that solves your problem.

In cases like this I should keep in mind to check for corrupted files first before applying any third-party apps.

Another thing to think about ITunes tags in a different format than WMP 12 so WMP may not be able to read it

As usual, I'm embarrassed because the solution was so simple.

In the summer, when I first took a crack at this, the ID tags were something I was trying to figure out. I had experimented with the different tags, but nothing really seemed to work.

But going back and looking at that Bowtie's suggestion, I fiddled with the tags in iTunes again. I noticed the ones that showed up in WMP were all V2.2, so I'm trying to switch those over to see if that's indeed the solution, and I think it may very well be, as more albums are showing up in WMP.

Is there a real difference with the ID tags? I mean, obviously different ones will make files show up in different places, but I mean is there any reason to have one specific tag over another?

Glad to hear your getting it sorted out.

My understanding is there are 7 different versions, 1.0 to 3.V2 since the genre has been developed, and some of the devices/players are not backward compatible.
You may in fact end up with several versions just to satisfy your devices requirements.

I personally converted all my music from ITunes which is M4A to MP3's, that way you can have one standard tagging method and they will play in any player

Oh yes, all my music is in MP3 format. I hate limiting my music files to any iTunes-only format, so all my imports are converted from disc to MP3. Much more universal, it seems
