Hello,
I've got a problem with WMP12, all the files I'm playing with the player are in my Music library.

How can I solve this? The songs plays fine, but why is it showing 0 bytes?

Solved!
Click Organize>Layout>Show Menu Bar
Than in the menu bar click Tools>Advanced>Restore media library, Click Yes and close WMP, Than it will read again all the contest in the Music library.

Sorry to bring up an old thread, but I'm having this problem too. I noticed when performing the action suggested, WMP says it will "empty the library". I'm assuming this will wipe all my play counts - is this right?

I followed the steps stated above and fixed my problem. Maybe you should try it too.

It will not delete the music files from your computer, It will only empty the library inside WMP and when you re-open it, it will fill the data again once more [Rating, album art, year, etc].

I've noticed this problem occurs when WMP 12 is restarted by force [like when you restart the computer, it will end the WMP process] Or did not close correctly.

It does lost the play counts, though, as they are stored in the library file and not the music file. If you remove a song from the library and add it again, the play count resets to 0.

Hi,

i seem to have this problem since yesterday.
I do not recall any W7 problems (restart etc)
i currently have files with 0 bytes and dupplicate names which i can not delete using wmp. The music folder only shows one file name. I already tried restoring the library but alas.

??

If you're not bothered about losing all your play counts, there is a solution. Deleting your library file will force WMP to rebuild it.

[First off, backup! Copy the library file somewhere safe.]

The file should be in C:\Users\[username]\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Media Player. Delete (after backup ^^) the file called "CurrentDatabase_372.wmdb" (it will probably be the largest file).

Restart WMP and it should recreate this file and build your library up from scratch.

thx, already did so as i am impatient

btw having a lot of experience with Windows i keep several copies of my precious files (at home and online backup with my provider) - one never knows ...

meanwhile ..... after i rebuild my library and everything was okay again i still get duplicate files for example one i do the following:

1) download a zip from internet to d:\temp
2) next unzip directly to my d:\music folder
3) a voila again duplicate files eventhough there is only one file present physically

when i unzip to temp and next copy paste to music folder all is fine

strange .......
