I run win 7 Home Premium in dual boot mode, 32 bit on one drive and 64bit on the other.

Iether boot can access my modem and wireless router when running the Lan enables my notebook to share files with my desktop PC.

The notebook is not present at the moment, but I noticed the wmpnetwk.exe is running all the time and is using 50% of CPU time, which slows other things down. The only way I can find to reduce this CPU usage is to turn off all sharing on both boots.
The modem is a NetComm NB6 and the router a Dlink DI 524

Is this what should normally happen when sharing is enabled?

Thank you very much Sordid.

The fix is in.

I assume I have a very early OEM disk (June 2010) which may have been pre glitch, it came with the machine.

I also have a newer Win 7 out of Singapore,a direct purchase, which does not have this problem.

Thank you for your help.

If the above doesn't work

As strange as these seem (remember we're dealing with M$ here)

-Change the windows indexing, if you it doesn't work you can always change it back, so that there are only small directories being indexed. Click the Start orb and type "indexing options", click "Modify" and uncheck everything. Click "OK" and "OK" again.

-Change the Windows Media Player indexing options so that there is nothing as low as one directory above the system drive (normally C:). Open Windows Media Player and click "File", click "Manage Libraries". Click each option to the right and follow the advice in the first sentence of this paragraph.

To check, start Task Manager and click on "Processes" tab, click "Show processess from all users" at the bottom, click the column heading "Memory" twice. Look for "wmpnetwrk.exe" and see if it's using an excessive amount of memory.
