Won't Boot

I recently put Windows 7 on my Acer laptop, and it has since quit working. It starts to boot, but it only goes so far as to show the Windows logo on the bottom......the logo it shows when it is booting up the OS. It will stay like that until you force shutdown. When you turn it on it asks if you want to boot up normal or repair mode(recommended). Both ways, same result. I have tried every option from the f8 boot menu, and still nothing. I even tried booting from the installation disk, and still it get stuck at essentially the same place.

what type of computer is this, what are your system specs? if we could get that info we would be able to better assist you, you can fill your system specs info out by clicking on "userCP" > "edit system spec" and fill out the various items listed. once you have this info we should be able to assist better

It's my uncle's laptop. I'm not sure of the specs. I would look them up, but again it wont boot anything beyond an f8 boot menu. It isn't anything special. He may have gotten it somewhere like Walmart. I also tried running a Vista disk, and got a bsod all 3 times. Each time said hd problem. It originally had Vista HP, and was upgraded to 7.

OK, I updated as best I could from the manufacturer, but I cannot be certain that any of the information is truly accurate. I am not much for hardware diagnostics, but it almost seems like a hdd issue.

If you can boot from the win7 install DVD, can you do a repair install ?

I tried.....same result on the repair, as well as every option in the f8 menu. the only different result was when I tried to boot from a vista install disk. Then I got a BSOD that directed me towards hdd trouble.

It still won't go any further then the loading windows screen

I also do not hear any fans, hdd, disk drives........nothing spinning or humming.
OK so the drive spins while it loads files, but then when the Win logo spins into the screen, it says Windows loading, that screen is as far as it will go. The dvd drive stops spinning, and it just stays that way until I shut it down.

I left it to run it's own repair, and still the same result on a different loading screen. Also, the disc is specifically an upgrade disk.

what was on it before you tried to upgrade to 7?

Yea the repair install is impossible since I cannot get the OS to boot up.

Vista, I think it was HP. Oh, and the upgrade was fine. This problem started 3-4 months or so after the upgrade.

He upgraded it a few months back. It has run perfectly until now. I initially thought of a virus issue, but that was before I saw exactly what it was doing. I am not much for hardware troubleshooting. If I can't get it to boot up, then I am at a loss. Suppose I tried disconnecting the hdd and replacing it with an external???? Do you think that might work? For some reason I am thinking the hdd is toast, but I am not a hardware guy.

Glad it is working. Sometimes you have to run repair install 3 times to re-write the Master Boot record to the HD properly.
