Won't Delete

Hi, can anyone help me with deleting this stubborn program (or driver or whatever the hell it is )

According to Microsoft, "INF files provide the ability to create customized software installation instructions, which include registry entries and destination directories. The INF file specifies the files that need to be downloaded and set up for the component to run. INF files can provide limited platform independence and specify limited software dependencies."

It looks like this is a protected file and removing it could cause system problems. Is there a particular reason why you're trying to remove it? If you're absolutely sure you have to remove it I'd suggest you make a restore point just in case something goes wrong.

Good info from marsmimar. What is the location of the inf file, and why do you want to delete it? It may be in use, and that's why you require permission to delete it. A Guy

Ok, so I installed "Nokia Care Suite" some time back & later was not able to uninstall it through Control Panel > Uninstall. Therefore, I ran "Everything" (a search program) and wanted to delete all entries for the keyword "Nokia". I could delete most of them but not this one along with few more. I even removed all the registry entries with the keyword "Nokia"...

In general, how does one delete such a file when the system won't allow us to? (I am not referring to this particular file)

The problem (as I understand it) is sometimes a file puts "hooks" into the registry using a different name or nomenclature. Searching for "nokia" (just as an example) may find those registry entries that have "nokia" spelled out. But if the registry entry was changed to abcdnokefghia a standard registry search may not locate it. So even 3rd party tools can fail. A system restore point (prior to installing software) or a system image may be the only way to revert back to a "clean" registry and files.

I would try the program Lock Hunter. It has an option of What is locking this file? , which can tell you what is locking the file. It may well allow you to delete it too.

LockHunter is a free 64/32 bit tool to delete files blocked by any processes

You might need to take ownership to delete it.

Nope. The issue here is file permission. If you see carefully, you would notice that "SYSTEM" is the current owner of this file. I tried changing that to "Administrator" & I was able to delete it. Wonder no one was able to figure this out???
