Today Google refuses to find a website to re-instruct me on a task I once knew how to do.

I had a file that I had pinned to the top of the list recent files in File>Open in Word 2000. I renamed the file to better reflect its contents. Now the 'shortcut' no longer works.

How did I create the shortcut?

I promise to create a document with the instructions that I'll be able to find in the future.

Thanks,
baumgrenze

Thanks for the reply!

It appears to apply to a more recent version of Word than 2000. It references 'Backstage View' (egad) which I am not offered.

In my version this results when the File tab is opened:

https://flic.kr/p/26afxRy

Somewhere the option to 'pin' a file in this display is offered.

Thanks

From what I can see, pinning a document was only added in office 2007.

Pinning a File/Folder is Called Create Shortcut

I played around a bit and I eventually realized I was remembering/asking the wrong question.

If you have icons on the quick launch bar for Office programs like Word and Excel, you can right click them and recently used files pop-up. This list can contain pinned folders.

Here is the solution to what I wanted to do.

In Windows Explorer I navigated to the file I wanted to pin and right-clicked on it. I selected 'Create Shortcut' and that file s pinned to the top of the above and below described list.

Here's the result accessed by right-clicking the selected Word icon below the list:

No, you cannot access this recent files with pinned item from within Word 2000.

The above technique is useful. In Word I use it every morning when I copy and format for reading a meditation post. It is a quick way to open the document, then paste and format the new addition, and save after reading. In Excel I have a spreadsheet with a line for every folder of 100 image files which contains at least a rough description of a set of related images in the folder.

So, the process of 'pinning' a folder to the 'recently used folders' accessed by right clicking the launch icon on the quick launch section of the task-bar is called 'create shortcut.' When I first encountered it in Windows Explorer I thought it might put another shortcut on the Desktop or on the Quick Launch bar.

I'll copy and save a copy of this for myself. I hope the explanation is useful to someone else, too.

Sorry for the confusion,
baumgrenze

Wrong! Here is the Correct Answer

First, I had eye surgery a week ago and seeing clearly for long periods of time is challenging for my 78-year-old eyes. I foolishly tried a quick fix and reply late last night.

Recently I find the Google selects false hits to populate the top of the list. I could not find this solution when I searched for it. Using Google logic, hits having to do with Word 2007 were what were presented, even with quotes around "Word 2000" in the search terms. Thank you Google, but that is a 'help too far.'

In the clear light of a new day I find that this works. For the remaining lifetime of Windows 7 and Office 2000 I hope this helps someone else as well.

Here is the correct answer:

1) Right click on the Quick Launch Office Icon (Word, Excel..) and a Recent list pops-up
2) Hoover cursor over a folder in the list and the color changes and an arrow appears to the right.
3) Hoover over the arrow and the option to 'Pin to This List' pops-out.
4) Right-click on the Folder you want to pin and a list of options pops-out. One option is to Pin to This List.
