Word 2003: Is something changing normal.dot?

From time to time, when I close a document in Word 2003, I'm asked if I want to save the changes in normal.dot, when I don't recall having made any. What causes this? Is there any way to see what changes it's talking about?

A number of things could do it -

• Did you copy and paste from a different document, and include the style?
• Did you change the indent or a tab setting?
• Did you change margins?

In other words, did you change ANYTHING from the original .dot style settings?

If so, there you are. If not, then I'm not sure!
