Word 2007 - where did 'Undo' go?

Word 2010 is just too heavy for me so I am using Word 2007.
Prior to this in an earlier version I could recover accidentally deleted text by clicking on 'Undo'.
This would restore the text just removed.

In this version (2007) there is a drop-down from a small arrow at the top of the program the icon is
a - with a black inverted triangle below it (Customise Quick Access Toolbar).
In the drop-down list I can tick 'Undo' ... however nothing happens. When I loose text i am unable to recover it. For ages I avoided using the program (silly I know) but my writing needs a proper work processing program and I'm happy generally with Word but am frustrated that I can't simply use Undo.

Can anyone enlighten me?

thanks

As an experiment, press Ctrl+Z because that's the keyboard shortcut for Undo. Ctrl+Y is the keyboard shortcut for Redo (or, Undo the Undo if you will). If Ctrl+Z works, then there may be something wrong with this installation of Office 2007.

thanks two cables,

I suspect you've hit on the problem.
Control x doesn't work suggesting that, as you point out, the program in not properly installed.
Not sure what to do as it's installed form a burned disk and if I re-install it will have the same fault.
Bugger!

Ctrl+X is the 'Cut' command. Ctrl+Z is Undo. Be sure to use Ctrl+Z for undo, not Ctrl+X. Also, be sure to hold down Ctrl while pressing the 'Z' key.

Anyway, I'm not saying that this would be a sure sign that it's not properly installed. It's just that this is the only thing I can personally think of (I feel that my knowledge is limited here).

woo hoo .... many thanks Two Cables ... control z did the trick!
I'll note those short-cuts and now enjoy my writing without concern
for those aberrations which seem inevitable.

Whew. You're welcome! I admit that I'd love to know why the menu option for Undo doesn't work, but at least the keyboard shortcut does! Also, remember that Ctrl+Y is Redo. These are pretty much universal keyboard shortcuts throughout all of Windows.

I love keyboard shortcuts. :)
