Solved Work-around for the 16GB limit on window home premium?

Microsoft has absolutely no interest in you or the amount of RAM you chose to fit into your system - They supply a suitable operating system to run on and allow you to access all of your RAM, (except that used as addressing space of course)

Saying you do not want to pay for the option in the Range of available operating systems, or more precisely, that you should be treated as a special case and get the more expensive option for the price of a lower one says more about you than Microsoft, Microsoft will not get any money if you do buy the correct OS for your system, they sold their last copy of Windows 7 a long time ago and the wholesaler has long since paid for it.

BTW you already have a legit copy of Ultimate that will meet your needs, and before you say that it's an upgrade only copy so it will not install please check the link I provided you with the instructions to install your copy - It was in the first post I made in this thread a procedure that has been used many times by many people who did not want to follow a full upgrade path to get the OS they had purchased to install - This method was known about by microsoft and the Beta testers of Windows 7 and was never blocked so is basically sanctioned especially even more so now on an out of Mainline support OS

I also know quite a few technicians who use the apple hardware - the vast majority however run Windows on the Apple hardware as they prefer the choice of operating system versions available

I'm confused.
You state you got a Ultimate version from Amazon; why?
As per your post #38 you already have a upgrade Ultimate disk paid for from Microsoft. It should of come with a proper COA key.
If I remember correctly, all Upgrades were treated as 'Retail' by Microsoft so the Upgrade still should work.

**Someone correct me if I'm wrong.**

I'm surly willing to learn.

Microsoft doesn't care what hardware is used. All Microsoft cares about is that we buy their operating systems. Microsoft doesn't even care if we use the operating systems after we buy them.

Next week I should get Windows 10 Pro/64 delivered to my home.
I chose Pro because it has more options I'm willing to pay for. I know it sounds like a simple thing to choose Windows 10 Pro/64 over Home. That's because it is.
Many people choose Windows 10 Home because that is all they need or want.
With a little research it's very easy to choose. It was that simple when choosing which Windows 7 to buy. My first purchase of Windows 7 was Home. When I upgraded my system I did a little research and decided that Windows 7 Pro was my desire because the new system would have 32 GB of ram. Now I'm down to 16GB on each system because I didn't use anywhere close to 16GB of ram so why pay for 32GB of ram. It's all about me doing my homework and making a choice. If one doesn't do their homework, it's one's own fault.

I have got about $4000.00 in my last build and I'm not going to blame Microsoft if I choose the wrong operating system that doesn't match my needs or desires over a few dollars difference in a operating system cost. It would be MY FAULT if I choose the wrong system and nobody else.

I like choice but I must do my homework first.

Jack

Barman58 "Microsoft has absolutely no interest in you or the amount of RAM you chose to fit into your system"

That simply isn't accurate. Why does everyone avoid answering the simple question, what is their interest in limiting it in one version and not the others, if it's not greed pure and simple???

"Saying you do not want to pay for the option in the Range of available operating systems, or more precisely, that you should be treated as a special case and get the more expensive option for the price of a lower one says more about you than Microsoft...."

Actually i said quite the opposite
, and stated the opposite in multiple posts. My objection has been clear throughout this thread, i object to an artificial limitation, that took more effort to create than it would have to have left it alone. I'm not even sure how or where you read that i feel i should get special treatment???

I saw your post about the download procedure, but iirc, Torchwood posted that link as well, and then he posted the HeiDoc link. I've made this request repeatedly now, let's agree to dis-agree.

It's done for Business reasons which microsoft decide, as they have held over 90% of the market that they operate in for many years it's obviously the right business model, for them, and it would appear the vast majority of those posting here. It's the Duty of any company to it's board/Owner/shareholders to maximise their profits. Call that greed if you wish I call it good business.

The question is, (I think).
Did Microsoft put a limit on ram with Home Premium to up sell to Pro or Ultimate?

Four answers.
1. Yes
2. Maybe
3. No
4. I don't know

I personally pick #1.
I have no problem with Microsoft up-selling and making more money.
I also believe that Microsoft has Home Premium for those that only need or want a lesser system.
They get less with Home Premium so therefore pay less.
Microsoft is trying to cover as much of the market in all price ranges. Because Microsoft has had 90% plus of the market for as long as I can remember, their method seem to work quite well.
It's called Good Business.

I also remember that when Windows 7 came out 16 GB of ram was unheard of for most people. Home Premium limits on ram was not a problem or talked about.

I'm also confused about the whole Ultimate issue. First it was 13.77 and then it was 200 but if you are having a problem installing it did you see my link on performing the upgrade without having to actually install anything? On to the issue at hand when I bought 7 it was when Microsoft had the pre-order sale I had the option of buying home premium for $60 or pro for $100. Even though I was unemployed at the time I went with pro because with my experience with XP and Vista I knew that I would need the additional features. Now I've been lucky with all 3 systems and gotten great deals but if I had to buy 10 for the full retail price I would get still get pro. Now Microsoft hasn't hidden the edition differences, they are very well known, so if someone buys a version (or anything of any significant value) without research then they could be shooting themselves in the foot. It's the same thing with cars since you keep bringing that up. If you go with a model with less features or a less powerful engine than you need then it is on you.The why is irrelevant. The fact of the matter is that they did that because they can. We've all tried to explain why yet you aren't accepting the answer. Since you seem to not be able to let that go then I'm out and I'm not even going to touch the points on 4K or the privacy issues since those are off topic. If you create separate threads I'll be happy to throw in my 2 cents there.

Another point though. You come here looking for our help with something you knew that you couldn't do (no shame in that by the way) and you don't accept anything that we have to say on the matter. I don't understand that. Is its because we aren't telling you want you want to hear? The fact of the matter is that there is that limitation and you can't do anything about it. We can't help you hack the OS because that would be a violation of the forum rules and we don't want to get banned. Are you going to ask why on that? If you do contact Brink or z3r010 because they are the forum administrators.

FIrst - as i explained in the response to Townsbg, this is larryccf - I don't know why but i couldn't login in all day - the connection kept timing out, then if i went to a different browser it would pull seven forums right up, but as soon as i would try to log in, it would time out, never logging in - kind of odd, actually.

Gratefully, you've finally admitted what was apparently difficult to admit - so we're halfway there. Apparently you think that's an acceptable practice, I simply don't. Again, a product with added feature sets, ie value added feature sets, i have no argument with MS charging more for. But this was an abritrary unscrupulous limitation to cause folks to have to upgrade. Your defense that MS has an obligation to it's shareholders - and it does, but to do business ethically, not slight of hand tricks. Using that logic, Hilter's invasion of europe could be defended - Germany was in economic meltdown, workers in bread lines with folks needing wheelbarrows of deutche marks to buy a loaf of bread. Ain't nothing better for the economy than a war - look back at the vietnam war.

Barman58, you find MS's conduct acceptable that's fine - i don't condemn you for it, but please don't expect me to.

FOR THE LAST TIME, CAN WE PLEASE AGREE TO DISAGREE?

First off, i'm larryccf - don't know why but all day i couldn't log in, my connection would time out, but if i went to another browser i could connect to the site, but as soon as i'd try to log in it would time out - kind of odd, so i re-registered but onto your post, because it's a little troubling that you seem to have speed read what i've posted

Please find for me where i asked how to hack into windows - i was asking for a work-around, two different elements, i was not thinking like a copyright or intelletual property attorney. Someone explained that would violate the EULA and i accepted that with no argument - i may be wrong but i think that was you.

My suspicion is that you speed read my posts re not understanding how/whether it was a retail copy or a $13.77 key, let me restate - I had a retail win 7 ultimate upgrade copy that has failed 3X since i bought it to validate it's key - it did validate the first time i installed years ago. A fuller history: bought a sony vaio in 2008/09 that came with 7 home prem, i purchased the 7 ultimate upgrade copy that i posted the receipt of - it installed fine the first time. THen not long after i purchased a SSD, a used samsung 810 off ebay that came out of a dell computer - went to install the upgrade copy and obviously it wouldn't install - Microsoft advised i had to have an existing win 7 OS to upgrade - as the sony didn't come with a copy of the OS, i bought my first home premium copy to install, then went to install the upgrade and it would not validate so i left it on the shelf. THen that samsung 810 died, or i thought it did, and I bought a sam 840 - went to install the home premium and on installation it wanted to take me online to update, not windows download updates but to update the version of windows iirc to Win 8 - it would not let me install whether update or custom was selected, so i bought my 2nd copy of home premium. Sometime later my system crashed, and being somewhat illiterate computer wise, i didn't know about cloning - when i went to re-install that copy of Home Premium, the same issue with it not installing. this was on the same computer, same mobo etc. That was also a business computer that i needed up and running fast, so i then bought my 3rd copy of home premium - each time i bought a copy of home premium i tried to install the Upgrade 7 Ultimate and it would repeat - refusing to install, either want to take me online to upgrade the version or refusing to validate the product key. THen the other day, after discovering the amazon key was oounterfeit out of frustration / desperation i tried the Upgrade Ultimate key i had, and for whatever reason it finally validated.

Now onto something else you stated: " and you don't accept anything that we have to say on the matter." - i'm not sure how you can state i don't accept the help folks have offered - Torchwood posted a link to Heidoc to download a 30 day trial of 7 ultimate - i tried it and it frigging installed, and i thanked him for that assist. Another poster, Freebooter, assisted on two points and i thanked him. On your first assist you suggested an approach using an "elevated command approach" - i don't think you realize you're talking to the Fred Flintstone of computer literacy.

That was when i went to amazon and found all those cheap key vendors - my experience with amazon has been pretty good, so i figured between that and the fact that there were so many vendors offering those keys plus the age of win 7, that maybe they were for real - but if i wanted a counterfeit key, why would i test that key by trying to validate the copy of 7 Ultimate i had downloaded from or thru HeiDox? i knew that validation request would go straight to MS - and that's what i posted a shot of, the capture of the validation attempt THRU THE INSTALLED COPY OF 7 ULTIMATE

for anyone else reading this, please read my posts carefully before insulting with statements that are not based in facts

Please find for me where i asked how to hack into windows - i was asking for a work-around, two different elements, i was not thinking like a copyright or intelletual property attorney. Someone explained that would violate the EULA and i accepted that with no argument - i may be wrong but i think that was you.

Yes you didn't ask us to help you hack windows but that is the only way to do what you want. Get it to accept more than 16 gb of ram. Hence the reason why we can't help you with that. All we can help you do are explore alternatives.

I thought of a partial explanation to your question about hardware limitations, not only ram but also cpu. That you be to avoid users taking their cheapest version and turning it into a server. That would require using higher levels of ram than most people use. Not that you would do that but some would. They would rather have users buy the most more expensive servers versions for that than the cheaper desktop versions especially their cheapest. Unfortunately your situation just happened to be caught in the crossfire.

Just install your Ultimate edition :)

We have no idea why MS put the 16GB limitation on Home Premium, but IMO it`s so people with the intent on installing more than 16GB would have to at least buy W7 Pro.

why are you repeating yourself? you stated EULA, i accepted it with no argument and you keep beating that dead horse - try to understand your 2nd assertion of it above was not quite as polite, assuming i was intent on violating EULA - i didn't even think about EULA, i don't live software, i made my living making metal chips machining - try to keep in mind not everyone that asks about a work-around is evil slime. You explained it the first time, and i accepted that, PERIOD
.
