I have a simple wireless home workgroup set up linking two laptops , this one with Windows 7 and the other Vista.

Everything works fine , but does anyone know how to send a popup message from my laptop to the other laptop.

Simple solution would be to walk upstairs and actually "speak" or I could just yell out but I would like to be more sophisticated :D

Lucky for you... Windows vista and 7 did not come with Windows net messaging services like it was implemented into Windows XP. You may want to look into Third Party software...

I don't know as I don't have a Vista machine to try it with. Give it a try and see if it works. Post results here please.

Thanks very much again Mike. I'll get onto looking into your links later today when I get a minute.

@Ztruker - unfortunately what you suggested did not work for me , but thanks for your time.

hi,

I am trying to send LAN message from Win 7 to Win 7 just as you have described, but the same error appears each time: "Error 1722 getting session names"

What can be wrong?
How can I fix it?

It looks like the msg command only works on domain networks not on workgroups ou domestic groups for some reason. Though some people claim it works on their home network, but no script to follow that works for sure until now...

What I found was to change this value in the registry:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Terminal Server
AllowRemoteRPC = 1

This didn't work for me but maybe there are more fortunate ones in this forum...
