Im working in a spreadsheet for windows 7, Works.
Every time I enter 1AM (a model designation) it converts it to 1:00 AM.
How to I stop this?
Thanks.

I haven't worked in Works for over a decade but this should "work," put a coma in the cell first then type 1AM.

That appears to have worked. If I type the comma first then the alpha-numeric. I can then go back and remove the comma and everything is ok.
I don't understand it, and I think it's dumb, but that is how programmers do things.
I would venture to say that my biggest headaches come from someone else taking control of my life and thinking they know better on how to improve it.
Thank you very much for the assistance.

Kurt,

You could also try putting an apostrophe ( ' ) before 1AM. It should work (it does in Excel). That way you don't have to go back and delete the comma. The apostrophe signifies to Works (and Excel) that this is a test cell, and the apostrophe is invisible.

I would be interested if that solves your problem without having to re-edit the cell.

It leaves the apostrophe in place. Curious.

I mistyped in my original answer as I intended to write apostrophe and not comma because as in Excel and Libre Office, which I use, the apostrophe does disappear leaving the desired text behind. But Works is an arcane program, and I'd expect it "should" work like Excel so I'm surprised to hear you say it doesn't! And I'm also shocked my error in typing actually led to your success albeit with an additional edit of the cell on your part!
