Slow, unattractive, Unreliable, Bad cameras, Bad hardware in general, shall i go on? I think they maybe make one or two phones that can be classed as "smartphones" but i personally would choose pretty much anything over one of those things!
In almost every thinkable sense, the IBM Simon was the world's first smartphone, sold in US between August of 1994 and March 1995.
First BlackBerrys were two way pagers, not phones. First BlackBerry you could call as a smartphone was introduced 2003, so BlackBerry joined the smartphone rally quit late.
