SATA 3 connections on a mechanical HDD is worthless. They can barely fill up a SATA 1 connection. And I'm going to call it it SATA 3 regardless of what "Serial ATA International Organization" says. Simple version numbers are easier to understand and relay.

138 MB/s == 1.2 gb/s (that is gigabits), SATA 1 connection is 1.5 gb/s

I hear ya Logic. But it's things like this that pave the way for the future. In other words, I like that the standard is being developed and deployed. Perhaps in few years time there will be a breakthrough in mechanical drives. Or maybe solid state will be able to push the limits of this standard one day.

I know your math is correct. But for some reason, I think if you hooked up the drive in the o.p. to a SATA I controller, it would not be close to sustained 138 MB/s. It's only a guess though. I don't have the drive heh heh.

SATA 3 is in fact for Solid State Drives, they are bumping up against the 3 gb/s limit of SATA 2 now. Even the fastest (10,000, 15,000 RPM) HDDs have yet to even scratch 2 gb/s.
