GIGABYTE Launches X58A-OC: World’s First Overclocking Motherboard

The GIGABYTE X58A-OC introduces some really exciting and unique overclocking technologies like the PWM frequency switcher, a full range of onboard hardware OC buttons, onboard SATA power connectors for stable multiple graphics configurations, and DualBIOS™ switcher that up until now have just been ideas discussed in private OC forums and messages," commented HiCookie, GIGABYTE In-house Overclocking Expert. "Tweaking features aside, we have also adopted high current components such as POScaps and MPFC (Max Power Ferrite Core) Chokes that allow overclockers to bench more reliably and with more power so they are able to smash more world records. If you're a serious overclocker with an i7-900 series CPU this looks to be an impressive board. Well.... I'm impressed

Amazing Board. this just after the G1 boards. if there price is anything to go on then this should come in under £450 mark, got to love X58.

now its a i7 970 or a Full Sandybridge Upgrade.. or wait to see what AMD have

Yeah that going to be an amazing board. Hopefully if won't be priced out of range for most enthusiasts like the UD9 was as about 600 bucks when first released - Gigabyte's next flag ship board Gigabyte GA-X58A-UD9

On the other hand considering what this board is for and what it does, $600 bucks may be about right

And yeah, that video is impressive. It was actually posted in the chillout forums a few weeks back

It's like Halloween all over again. Scary board, and in the appropriate colors, too! Maybe the "OC" actually stands for "Orange Colors". :devil:

Outside the color scheme, which is pretty horrendous, the board is quite impressive. Not sure what the price would be, but I'm pretty sure it's going to command a pretty penny.

With that said (and forgetting the color scheme) how much would you pay? Bear in mind that most premium motherboards run around 350sih and this board is geared towards extreme overclockers and enthusiasts.

BTW......

The onboard 4G Ready button allows novice overclockers to automatically reach 4GHz, while advanced users can use it to get to 4GHz before continuing with OC-Touch to quickly find their CPU’s best margin. Onboard voltage measurement modules are also included to help users to conveniently monitor component voltages.

And this.....

OC-DualBIOS™ features an onboard BIOS switcher and LED indicator, allowing users to select one BIOS for normal use, and another one for overclocking. It can also act as a backup BIOS in case of BIOS failure during overclocking. With two BIOSes, users are able to save up to 16 different overclocking profiles – a very useful feature when overclockers want to update to a new BIOS, but don’t want to lose their original settings.

Again this is one impressive board.

and they could have put a few extra slots, like some PCI-E x1 slots in between the x16 slots.

That was done on purpose as the board is strictly designed with overclocking in mind....

GIGABYTE has listened closely to the overclocking community to make sure the X58A-OC has all of the overclocking features enthusiasts have been asking for, without some of the features that are unnecessary while overclocking, or can negatively impact performance - similar to a stripped down sports car where the aircon, radio, passenger seats, etc… have been removed to reduce weight. Layout was a critical aspect of the design, not only in choice of components used, but also spacing of the components so that insulation of the board is as easy as possible, while still maintaining the most efficient data pathways between the various components. GIGABYTE is also introducing 5 new main overclocking features on the X58A-OC that help to push the performance envelope of the X58A-OC even further including OC-VRM, OC-Touch, OC-PEG, OC-Cool and OC-DualBIOS™.

If you're not into overclocking, this board isn't for you.

Ironically this is also probably why there's such a low speculative price quote on the net.

You guys are making quick judgements..... and missing the point. Perhaps this would help clear the misconception.... GIGABYTE's X58A-OC motherboard gets full introduction on video :: TweakTown USA Edition. Definitely check out the video.

And yeah, Gigabyte is only recommending 280 bucks for the board. In fact the board is stripped down for price consideration.

And again, this board is strictly dedicated to high-end overclockers. Can anyone use it.... yeah. Can anyone just hit a switch and hit 4gig.... probably. But bear this in mind...... I could own an i7-990x system..... and only surf the net with it
