I have three older system all of which run perfectly.
1. Core2Duo E7500 with XP Home/3 - GT 430
2. AMD 3700+ with XP Pro/2 - 6600GT
3. AMD 2800+ with XP Home/2 - Onboard
All have maxed out RAM for their respective MoBo.
All have SATA and USB2 connections.
Two of the three have updated power supplies.

Any uses, even off the wall, would be appreciated.

Yes, I'm into creating good Karma, too. I was hoping to get some choices
for uses at home, gifting the systems to friends, or a school class working
on computer repair, etc. Hopefully, I'll get a few more responses. Seems like
"what to do with old computers" is a common question.

Gift or donate is good karma. I have my second desktop setup as a email server, 4 personal and one business account, and I use it for all down loads hoping to reduce the odds of a virus. Older boxes still surf the web pretty fast. I have a third box mining bitcoins and alt coins.

Great ideas. I checked the Christina Foundation website and found a couple
of organizations, in my area, wanting older PC systems. Haven't decided where
to drop them off or whether to make some type of server. Donation sounds best
to me.
Thanks, again for the great ideas

My suggestions for the boxes are as follows:

The C2D E7500 still has enough oomph (technical term for ZOOM ZOOM) to run Win7 or 8 if so desired. One might load it up with a Linux flavor as darn near everything in the box SHOULD be supported. I would keep it as a desktop wherever it ends up. Nice for give away.

The X3700+ with maxed RAM says 'Server' to me. The 85 to 90 W TDP makes me shudder especially as newer CPUs and APUs absolutely kill these old S939 chips. Too bad as a full time box but for long term storage that you shut off after a back up, maybe, YMMV.

The X2800+ is simply too little performance for too much power consumed(1.8GHz @ 89W TDP). I am sorry but the time for this over. The only thing I can think of for it at all is as a firewall but for that you would need two NICs.

BTW I have my full time server running on an Athlon II 255 (3.1 GHz @ 65W w 5 GB DDR2 and 4 1TB drives non RAID). I use a old X2 3600+ AM2 (1.9 GHz @ 65W TDP) for a once a week back up location. Slow and old but fast enough for my needs.

$2 a day in electric cost = $6 in cryrpo coins. It was significantly more profit but the difficulty number has rolled over so many times you can't really see a ROI if you are just starting. Alt coins have a fairly low value and it fairly steady. BTC's can change $100 in a few days, it's the wild west with them. I bought 4 BTC's when they were $25, now they are $200. If I sell them they well go to $400, if I keep them they well drop to $12.:sarc:

I got 2/3 of my equipment investment back in the first two months, I'm still working on the last 1/3 three months later. The Bitcoin ship has already sailed.

You can still use older Pc's to browse the internet not much else you can do outside of that

Some programs will work if they are older version which some still use today

The chips from AMD you mentioned the +2800 +3200 I think those were Thunderbird chips and still work pretty well

Honestly if the Cpu still and Mb I would swap out parts and get at least one of them and upgrade it with the other spare parts if usable then take the others and use them as Web Browsers
