Would You Reject A Pre-Built PC Because Of Windows 8

I found an excellent pre-built PC deal. The system uses quality parts and is cheaper than the cost of the separate parts + shipping by $125.00. Plus, I would have to spend time building the PC. The only problem are is it ships with Windows 8 only.
Is Windows 8 a deal killer ?

Yes it is. But if you want the pc just buy Windows 7 and install it. Or find something with W7 installed.

Does it come with a touch screen ?

No touch screen. Buying Win 7 would bring the price close to building it myself.
It becomes much less of a good deal.

No touch screen = no Windows 8 for me.
I just build my own any way and never have issues.

In all honesty any PC that only costs $125 including ANY OS has got to be one big piece of K-Wrap.

More then likely a scam. Especially since Windows 8 cost close to or more then that $125.

I personally would not even consider a PC that cost that little.

It wouldn't be a deal killer for me.

I use it with a third-party utility (IOBit's "startmenu") that allows a 7-ish working environment. It's a crutch, I admit.

If 8 had eliminated the desktop altogether, that would be a major problem for me.

I'd wait to see in what way the market soon forces them to offer Windows 8 PC buyers upgrade rights to Win7.

FYI you get the Actual Win7 start menu from it's own explorer files using Windows 7 Start Menu for Windows 8.

The real genius of this choice is that it toggles off the Metro start screen so it's never loaded into RAM and makes 8 seem faster than either 7 or default 8.

I would reject any kind of pre-built PC, Windows 8 or not. Buying the parts and assembling it myself is a much better option as I can know EXACTLY what hardware I have, I get all the original CDs with drivers and manuals and there is no chance of scam or false advertisements. Given that I know how to build it myself, I accept to expend a little more money for far better quality.
If it comes with a preloaded OS (as in the case of notebooks), it doesn't matters anyway, as it always comes full of crapware, so the very first step is to do a clean install of the OS I like and not what MS likes at the moment.

What's the big deal. Make an image of the Win8 installation (just in case), put a 60GB SSD in and install Windows 7 on it. That will eat up the $125 savings but you'll have a super system.

Let me remind you that everything you buy these days is Windows 8. If I got it with the system, I could get along with it. But I would not "upgrade" my Win7 systems.

I had planned to buy a laptop during January. In November I saw that all of the new ones had Windows 8. I bought immediately with Windows 7. Windows 8 was a deal killer for me.

Might not be quite so easy. Two cases now where 8 PC won't install 7 or Dual Boot:

The second case is the longest install failure case I can recall we've ever had running here. The problem is EFI BIOS' which differ on each mobo and can have obscure settings choices.

Guess he wasn't talking about dual boot, but just delete Win8 (keeping a backup just in case) and install a fresh Win7.

Another suggestion. Ask the seller if you can buy the PC without the operating system which should lower the price even more. Then buy Windows 7 of your choice and install.

Let me remind you that everything you buy these days is Windows 8. If I got it with the system, I could get along with it. But I would not "upgrade" my Win7 systems.
