So I played WoW throughout most of high school and had little to no social life, I did not enjoy the social life aspect but I did enjoy most of the game play and SOME of the players I was able to meet. I found arena enticing but extremely frustrating (I played a hunter for 2-3 years), for those who don't know not many people want or try to play with a hunter in arena.

I'm still working on getting my computer up and running (NewEgg is out of stock on the GPU's I want) so for the time being I loved to the 360, I met some kids from Oklahoma on there and I actually got along with them for a change, instead of having some twelve year old yell profanity in my ear because he knows I don't know where he sleeps at night.

I like/liked the achievements on the 360, I'm not sure why but I was constantly called an achievement whore. I find them very appealing for whatever reason, maybe its just something to do? I don't know.

I played Medal of Honor and Call of Duty when they were the thing to do and was in a clan etc... I really enjoyed that but at some point I lost interest and switch to WoW and from there lost interest and switched to the 360 and lost interest and from there got stuck with nothing to do.

Why am I tell you this? Background I guess, plus I'm bored, but if you've read this far you might as well read the rest.

With Cataclysm coming out in December I'm very tempted to give WoW another go. Granite it restricted my social life and I'm not sure how it would work since I work full time right now but it seems like it might be fun. But none of the people I once knew that played are on anymore, as far as I know.
Hierarchy of Gaming Platforms

Xbox 360 (Young kids who scream yell and whine)
-------------------------------------------------------
MMO's (Lack of interest, frustration with other players depending on class)
--------------------------------------------------------------
PC Games (Fun but feels like somethings missing)

That is what I'm stuck with at the moment, maybe I miss the clan atmosphere or something, idk. But either way, should I give it a try or try to figure out a 360/PC alternative?

Thanks for reading!
Sorry for any bad grammar or typo's!

You could give Runes of Magic a try. It has a WoW style, but is much friendlier.

Edit: It's also free.

This is a very personal question. I for one played since the beta until the last year, grabbing a couple realm firsts (Celestial Defender, Death's Demise and Magic Seeker, to name a few from the WotLK, but I took part of the first kill of near all the end-raid bosses since AQ40 in the Classic WoW, Kil'Jaeden and the original 40-man Kel'Thuzzad included) and spending some big time creating tactics with my friends and guildies.

Turned out I found the game at that point to be kind of a job. I was seeing myself needing to go thru each and every instance each day to keep farming stuff to ease our 25-man raid nights, and that was becaming a nightmare to me. 5 years of game and I chose to quit. Real life, real job priorities made me chose that.

Now, last month with all the buzz about Cataclysm I decided to give it another try, but this time not as a hardcore raider anymore. And I am enjoying it again. Mostly because of my friends and people I used to spend real time with them are still in there. We are real life friends, we have lunch together, we work together, we met ourselves from time to time, and that really bonded some cool friendship among us. People sometimes travel like 2000 miles to spend an extended holiday with other 40+ guildies, girls and friends. That is the very cool and is the unique aspect I enjoy the most about playing WoW.

Blizzard said things are going to change (again, like they say at each patch, lol). I may keep playing at this slow pace I'm today (down from 7h/night to 10h/week), if I have not to chose my job or my toon as an year ago. Time will tell.

Either way, I believe you missed the game social features entirely. Just my $.02.

And by the way, I met my fiancé ingame ;)
