Solved WP7Pro x64 - SP1 Update Problem - Error Code 80246007

Well, I have finally taken the plunge to fix my rig's inability to update to SP1. I ran SURT and now have the requisite CBS log file in zip format along with the screenshot of the error code. I left off a couple of the CBS cabinet files as they seemed to be date specific and were older concurrences of when I attempted to update to SP1. Was this correct of me to do? They were 15-20MB in size. FYI - My CheckSUR log came up clean.

Please let me know what it is that I can do on my end to fix this problem. I am running a Crucial SSD and it just flies!

Here is a question while the files are being reviewed for possible solution(s). Can't I just wipe the SSD and perform a fresh install of WP7Pro? I know it will take a while as my version of WP7Pro is from 2010 and I will also have to reload all of the drivers, settings, etc.

I really don't want to have to wipe it if I don't have to.

Neither SFC scan, nor CheckSUR scan point up any problems.

Please upload the C:\Windows\windowsupdate.log file, and I'll see if it gives us any clues

See if this helps....

Open an Elevated Command Prompt, and run the following commands....

netsh winhttp reset proxy
net stop wuauserv
net start wuauserv


Here are some instructions to make life easier
1) To open an Elevated Command Prompt Window (the ECP window), click on Start, All Programs, Accessories – then right-click on Command Prompt, and select Run as Administrator. Accept the UAC prompt.
2) To run the commands easier, highlight the block of commands, and right-click on the highlight – select Copy. In the CP Window, click on the black/white icon at top left – select Paste. The commands will run but may not complete the last command, so hit the Enter Key once.
3) To copy the results... click on the Black/White icon in the top left, and select Edit... 'Select All', and hit the Enter key - then use Ctrl+V or r-click+Paste to paste it into your response.

Thank you, again! I will run this when I get back to the rig in a few hours. As a very dangerous, risk taking naive sysadmin of 1(only for my own rig!), what does this do? Should I then try and run the update again after performing the task? I will, of course, follow your instructions to a "T" and paste the result in my next reply.

Update fails at the same point, 10% into it.....I will, when I have time, perform the same tasks that I started the thread with. The error code this time, though, is 80070490.

Progress of a kind, I suppose - although the 0490 error is often difficult if not impossible to fix

is it a valid option to wipe the drive and start over from a fresh install? We could be going back and forth for some time, no?

I doubt very much that a clean install is necessary - but a repair install should fix things up.

Worked. Just took a while to get all of the updates....like hours! Really, it felt like hundred of them. Thank you for everything and I really do appreciate your time.

Now, here is a quick question, and if you think it inappropriate for this sub-forum, I will repost. My boot times are really long...like it takes 80 seconds to boot...and, I have a crucial m4 128gb SATA 6gb/s SSD. Perhaps the correct "driver", if there is one for the main drive, isn't loaded??

There could well have been over a hundred updates

What's your motherboard?
Have you downloaded the latest drivers from the manufacturer's site?
Have you checked the firmware for the SSD is the latest?
