It's been almost a year since this started.

I try and search for solutions and soon or later I wind up at a Driver Download Site, which I do not use.

The Initial Windows Sounds play when the PC is turned on.

From that point on, there is no sound at all.

I try playing YouTube stuff, no sound.

I try listening to the News, no sound.

I have tried deleting WPD multiple times from the Device Manager, it keeps coming back.

Any insight or help would be greatly appreciated

Best regards,

Mike Lynch

FYI - Once or twice a year, I plug in my Android Phone to transfer the pictures on it to my PC.

I read the Link however, I am a Novice and it says a lot I am not familiar with.

"Volume" doesn't mean what you think it does.

A volume is an area capable of holding data, or a single accessible data storage area. For example a disk partition is a volume.

What makes you think wpd is connected to any sound issues you may have?

Try checking device manager > show hidden

devmgmgt-showhidden.jpg

Here for example are a couple of usb sticks - they are "hidden", because they are not currently connected

devmgmgt-showhidden2.jpg

devmgmgt-showhidden3.jpg

I don't see how they have anything to do with system sounds or whatever audio problems you have.

Accidentally noticed the following:

The sound works fine on other User Desktops, Sign-On's.

Any clues as to why?

I can tell you exactly how to get rid of the drivers related to WPD if you want, but, BUT, you need to either create a system restore point first or do a full disk clone before you do what I tell you to do, and when I tell you how to do it, follow everything I tell you down to a T. If this was my computer I'd have that BS fixed in a flash, that I can guarantee.

I think perhaps the reason why WPD doesn't start may be due to its service not starting if it actually has one. Even if there is a service to WPD, I wouldn't allow WPD on my system at all anyway. Especially based on what I read from that article which I'm going ot share on my own website forum under my "updates crap" topic. AS the article says, and I've been saying this for YEARS! Never, ever, let Windows update your drivers, EVER. People who say there's no issue don't know anything, and I realize this may be a shock to some, but I've been messing around with computer for two decades (not as long as some I do realize) but I have read my fair share of Windows update driver madness on countless tech forums like this one to know that you don't want Microsoft updating your drivers. The only sure fire way of updating any driver is by going to the manufacture's website and getting it from there. DO NOT trust any driver download site other than the real manufacturer's website. Could be Nvidea, Intel, Crucial, AMD, Creative, etc, etc. To make sure Windows doesn't update your drivers wheather in 7, 8, 8.1 or 10, read this guide, and read it well. Take heed and do it.

How to Stop Windows 10 From Automatically Updating Hardware Drivers

How to Prevent Windows from Automatically Updating Specific Drivers

3 Ways To Disable Automatic Driver Updates In Windows 10

Now I have a question for you. How did you ascertain that WPD was the issue with sound not being played? Was this through your research or because you simply noticed that driver not be activated in Device Manager?

To give you a little Info. on what I took from that article since you indicated you're a "novice." There was a n update pertaining to this WPD crap and it's a driver that facilitates with the chipset of some Android devices. SO if those don't work, that BS driver is probably the reason. The article also mentions that this "update" packs with it old outdated 2011 USB drivers.

Since by in large Microsoft stopped supporting updates for Windows 7, it would probably be in your best interest right now to just turn it off. There are so-called service stack updates however, and if you want those just download them manually from Microsoft's update catalog if you need them. To turn off updates for good, and this has worked for me in 7, go to the control panel | Administrative tools | Services. In Services look for Windows update. Stop it then disable. This can also be done in group policy if you have a Windows version with group policy. Typically starting from Pro I do believe. Home won't have it.
