write size of BD-R

I know the size of blu-ray disks is 25GB, but what amount of that size is actually writable?
For example, DVDs are 4.7GB, but only something like 4.35GB is actually writable using imgburn or similar software

How much information can actually be stored on a BD disc? See here Section 9.2

As you can infer from the above the actual data bits/bytes that will be written to a BD-R will vary on many factors. Thousands of small files will take more space because of the slack or wasted space. Limited number of large files result in less wasted space translating into higher written data.

It will be a futile and worthless effort to calculate how much space a given set of files you want to burn will take using your brain cells. Your burning program will automatically calculate and show you if it is getting beyond the intake capacity. Leave it at that.:)
