Solved Wrong time on clock after windows re-install

Following windows updates on Wed my pc wouldn't start any more and I had to factory rset it and lose 14 years od data unless my cloud storage system will work which it wont at the moment.

One problem I have is my windows clock is showing 10 hours ahead and tomorrows date despite being in the correc time zone - gmt - can anyone help please?

If you manually change the time to be correct, does it stay that way?

I would also recommend to check what the time is set as in BIOS to see if that may be off, and to synchronize the time in Windows 7.

You lost 14 years of data. Why didn't you boot from "recovery environment" or linux live-cd and backupped the data to external disk?

if the time won't 'stick', you may have to change your motherboard battery.

don't worry, it's cheap and easy to do.

When I try and synchronise with the time servers it says windows was unable to synchorise with the server.

Maverick,

You will not be be able to synchronize the time since your current time is so far off. You'll have to manually change your time to be correct first, then try synchronizing it to get it more accurate. It's not uncommon to have to try synchronizing it more than once or to change the time server before it works though.

If your time does not stay set correctly afterwards, then check your BIOS time, and you may have to replace your motherboards battery as Mickey posted above.

What time server do you use in control panel time settings? And what happens what you click "update now"? Does it update or gives you an error message (what message?)

If your set time is off by much, it may not be able to synchronize. That's why you must set it to be the exact correct time first. You will know if it actually synchronized if you get the successfull message like below when you try afterwards.

1 yr old Dell Inspiron 580 1.5 Tb HD 8Gb RAM

Windows 7 84 bit

What exact error message?

An error occurred while Windows was synchronising with time.nist.gov. The operastion returned becasuew the timeout period expired.

The clock was most recently synchonised on 15/1/12 at 16:02 - my radio clock in my room said 16:08 at the time.

I get that same message with that provider. Use the dropdown box to change the provider to time.windows.com to see if that works.
