Wrong windows name in bootloader

Hi

I have a duel boot pc which runs Linux and Windows 7. I not sure if this is Windows or Linux fault but the GRUB (linux bootloader) give me option to either boot to Linux or to WIndows 8 which isn't right. However if I select Windows 8 it will boot to Windows 7 correctly.

I did used to have windows 8 on my pc last year as a duel boot to Windows 7 (no linux was on the pc) but I have wiped it but it seems that there is still bit of windows 8 bootloader code lying somewhere around.
I have tried bootrec many times but it doesn't change the name. I did try wipe GRUB again and install it but it still saying Windows 8.

Please could anyone help?

If Win7 was already on the PC when you installed Win8, unless Win7 was on a different physical drive and you had that disconnected during the Win8 install, the boot loader files in Win7 got updated to support Win8.

So basically, even though Win8 is gone, you're still booting from the Win8 boot loader files.

If you want to "fix that", then do the following:
1) Use the Backup feature in Win7 to create and burn a Win7 Repair CD
2) If you have Linux on a separate physical drive from Win7, disconnect the Linux drive
3) Boot from that CD and run Startup Repair three times -- that's right, three times. This will rewrite the boot loader files from the Win7 Repair CD.

If Linux was on the same physical drive as Win7, you will have overwritten the MBR code so that the PC doesn't boot into GRUB anymore. You will need to use Linux install media to rewrite GRUB.

The Win7 or it's 100mb System Reserved (if you have it) partition must be marked Active first before running Startup Repair - Run up to 3 Separate Times for the repair utility to know where you want the boot files written.

If Linux is on the same HD, delete GRUB first. Then add Linuxusing EasyBCD as shown in Dual Boot - Windows 7 and Linux - Windows 7 Forums

Hi

Sadly none of these work for me
All the start up repair tells me is no problems error even though i tried it three times. Is there a way to actually delete MBR? So that i can make a new one.
