WTF is TrustedInstaller doing to my previously-stable Win7 laptop?

I'm seeing TrustedInstaller running much more than it used to. Anyone know why?

I have WinUpd set to ask me before installing anything. I manually run Windows Update every day or two.

What do I do now? It's eating 100% of CPU... mostly "Deferred Procedure Calls and Interrupt Service Routines"

And just noticed... TrustedInstaller is -now- in Stopped state... total CPU dropped to 34%, so it must have done *something* ... will root around for clues.

Fortunate enough to successfully apply monthly updates for several months... now VERY concerned about losing my device to 4515206 or 4474419. Advice??
Are you using MSE? That's the only Windows program that should be giving you an update on a daily basis.

Yes, running MSE, and agreed, no other software should be changing!

Is there an official way to see "what's changed?" TrI (my acronym) runs altogether too much, for my liking, on a low-end laptop.

I'm guessing/assuming that MSE updates would be done by TrI.

Is scanning the disk for modified files sufficient to learn what TrI's done (it -seems- not), or do I need to dig into the registry?

Try setting update to never. MSE will still update every couple of days at most. My thought is when updates are set as you have, they are still ALL downloaded to your drive waiting to install. You can still check for updates if you want on update Tuesday or whenever.

You can download Live Sysinternals = Process Monitor from MS. Here's a link to Live Sysinternals where you can download useful app's. These are direct links and will download immediately. "Caution" Research anything prior to download and running. "Thing Before you Click" Process Monitor gives you all the information you need. It runs within itself so there's no installation needed.

Here's a good tutorial on Process Monitor. Hope this helps you out.
