X-Fi Platinum Champion Series issue

Hello, i have an issue reguarding my sound card (X-Fi Platinum Champion Series issue), thats is bothering me much. I updated my hardware this weekend (i7 950, ASUS P6T SE, Corsair Vengeance 12gb, RevoDrive 120gb and ASUS 570 GTX), was using retail Win 7 ultimate on the previous machine too with the same sound card and never had any issues like this.

Right after the fresh Win and drivers install i discovered that my headphones (which i always use) were not working when plugged in the front part of the SC system (where you have SPDFI and line-in etc...) which i always used till that day. One strange thing is that usualy when you install the drivers from CREATIVE site it downloads an automated update system to detect you SC and find newer updates and addons, it gave the answer "no Creative SC was found in your system"... ehm?

Right after i went in system properties and discovered that the device was installed correctly. In the device manager it shows X-Fi, HD audio (mobo SC) and 3 or 4 nVidia HD drivers (dunno what are they for, maybe they belong to the 570gtx i own).

I tryed many times to delete all the drivers and reinstall them (newer and previous version from Creative site) with no success (i havent tryed any driver removal program yet, sorry). After that i plugged the headphones in the rear jack and i discovered that the sound "works". The problem is that the sound works almost fine in games, in Black Ops the only things i discovered were some incomplete sounds or echos. Music works fine, but in windows when you double click to open the documents usualy there is a soft sound, now what i hear is sometimes nothing sometimes cracks.

If i plug the headphones to the SC of my mobo then everything works fine!

I tryed to swap PCI slots, 1st time I tryed to swap the bios date and time got reset (dunno why), 2nd time it was fine, but still no help. I updated the bios, downloaded latest Intel Chipset drivers too, tryed to disable the ASUS SC in the bios, played with the properties of Sound in windows... nothing. Still cant get to fix the card, and not even the front part of the card.

- Anyone of you experienced similar things?
- Is there maybe a conflict with the sound card (X-Fi, Realtek)?
- Possibly that the new nVidia cards that have HD audio too come in conflict?

Thank you for your answer, hope to resolve this issue.

I take it you installed a new motherboard. Most motherboards have integrated (on the motherboard) audio. If you are using a separate sound card you need to disable the Integrated audio in the BIOS. It can conflict with the separate sound card and cause many problems.

In regards to a video card with HDMI audio, go to the Control Panel, Hardware and Sound and finally the Sound Panel Playback section and set your sound card as the default playback device.

I tryed that again yesterday, disabeled the HD sound card in the bios, when i entered the win the X-Fi was already at default, but the result was the same...

Cracking sound when opening windows folders and missing sounds in games. Front unit did not emit any sound only from PCI card.

New case to go with the rest of the new hardware? If so it could well be the cable from the front panel to the sound card that is the problem as when you say this,

If i plug the headphones to the SC of my mobo then everything works fine!

sort of rules out that it is the sound card that is the problem. It is also a fairly common thing,

crackling front panel jacks - Google Search

usually caused by poor wires, poor grounding in the front panel, too close to some kind of interference inside the case, etc.

Probably turn up in one of those Google results above, but I remember seeing someone that had gone so far as to insulate that cable to try and stop the crackling (don't remember if it was totally successful or not).

One way to test if it is the cable or not is to re-enable the onboard sound and connect the front panel to it and see if it still happens.

No, the case is the same Kandalf VA9000SWA, front SC panned in the same position.

Now that you were talking about cables i remember that the cable (similar to floppy cables inside the case) was a bit oscillated at the X-Fi interior part pins.

When switching the mobo, it wend off much hard. Ill try switching cable or at least disconnecting it 1st, to see if thats the problem.

Thanks for now

I tryed yesterday to unplug the cable, but the problem still persisted :( Can the problem be caused due to some bios settings maybe?
