Hi,

I would like to ask for help for x64 bit software as I am preparing for migration to x64 bit. Am building a new budget rig for my son (for starters will be an AMD A8-5600K / Gigabyte F2A75M-D3H /2x4gb HyperX 1600 ram / 1gb HD6670 video card --for dual graphics of A8 series..etc) and I am gonna finish late next week (I think --depends on the office work. This is a busy week for us (5 customer audits) at the office(electronics manufacturing).

Now this will be my first spin with x64bit and I am at a loss which of my software has x64 installers and dual installers. I'd like to ask for help and assistance here from you guys if you know download links perhaps for the software that I will list below. I tried to search for some but I was at a loss and am tired from work. Please help me guys :( Might you extend me some help for download links perhaps...

Among the software I have are:

Browsers...? Is there an x64 bit download for Chrome / FF / Iron / Maxthon / Dragon..?

WAIK for 64bit --- I see in the WAIK that I have there is an wAIKIA64.msi(66339kb) and wAIKAMD64.msi(78092kb). Does this mean that the ISO installer I have is "universal"...? See below.

Avira IS 2013
KIS 2013
Emsisoft Internet Suite
HitmanPro

Acronis products --of which I did not have a reply from support :(
ATI Home 2011/2012 Plus Pack

WinISO
PowerISO

EASEUS Partition Master Pro 9.1.1
MinTool Partition Wizard Pro 7.7

KMPlayer
PotPlayer

WinX DVD Ripper Platinum
MacX DVD Ripper Platinum

Faststone Image Viewer
Faststone Screen Capture
Duck Capture

RevoUninstallerPro x64
CCleaner
TuneUp Utilititities 2012
GlaryPro

FoxitPhantom Business 5.5.6
Nova PDF Pro ver7

Puran Defrag
Auslogics Disk Defrag

TrueCrypt
Axcrypt

Free Download Manager

ImageBurn
CDBurner XP (without OpenCandy)

PolyeditLite word processor
Jarte Free word processor

The list is a long one and I'd like to ask for understanding on your end. I hope it's okay. I have all the installers for the x32 version at home and as mentioned I do not know if they are "universal" or not or if I need an x64 version where can I download it. Some of the sites that I have visited do not reflect an x64 download like Polysoft Solutions -- PolyeditLite word processor, WinISO, even Acronis!!! to name a few.

Any tips or any advice you can give me as I take the plunge to x64...?

Thank you very much and will wait for your help guys :) and do bear with me or spare some thoughts on it :) THANKS!

m25 :)

Hi Bud,

To be honest when I made the switch from 32bit to 64bit a few years ago I didn't even think about software compatibility, and actually I didn't need to, seeing as 64bit has been out for quite some time now and is pretty much considered the norm, pretty much any new software and most from the last few years works fine. Any software you download usually comes with the option of 32 or 64 bit before you start.
I have only ever had a problem with 1 bit of specialist software for my work but that was a very old program.

I would not worry about it too much, looking through your list I am pretty sure you can download and install most of it (well the ones I recognize anyway).

And as for the browsers you listed, just download and install them, they will work. Not sure about Iron though, never heard of it.

@paulpicks21,

Thanks for the reply.

When I was doing the search for 64bit installers I got confused because when I checked the "Download" some of the sites I visited did not even give me a clue if the installers they are offering for download are for x64/x32. Some do have like CDBurner XP which offered both x32/x64 installers but others do not have that info on their site. I already sent email to a couple of software maker support but I still am waiting on their reply. Any idea on the WAIK that I added there..

:)

@x BlueRobot,

Thanks for the reply.

64-bit operating system are backwards compatible with 32-bit programs.

Sorry got confused about "backwards compatible" (not a techy :)). Does this mean that x32 installers would work with x64 OS..?

:)

No worries,

To be honest with you, I think you are over worrying, I expect all the stuff you want to put on will work, most of the stuff on your list you can just go ahead and download the latest version and it will just work.
Realistically it's only very old software that was made many years ago that you might have issues with, but again if it's not specialist stuff then they will usually have a latest version available which will work fine.

Just get Windows 7 64 bit installed and you will see you had nothing to worry about.

If you have any troubles with specific software after that, drop back and ask and someone will be able to help.

Paul.

Yes they will work, however, I would suggest installing the 64-bit version if any, and as Paul has pointed out, very old software such as 16-bit programs will not work, but you will be able to get around this with a 32-bit operating system running in a virtual machine.

Why are you planning on installing all these Antivirus Softwares

  1. Eset NOD 32 AV
  2. Avira IS 2013
  3. KIS 2013

You just need One . For real time protection . Running more than one will slow your PC and conflict with each other . If you want to install a real time protection Antivirus I'd go with KIS 2013 .

Regarding WAIK ? If you have an OS 64-bit use the wAIKAMD64.msi file to install the software . wAIKIA64 are for servers with server processors ( you don't need this version )

Hi guys,

I returned to let you know that I am now using the new x64 assembly as I type this one. I have installed the other programs that I used in x86 and they did worked. Only a handfull did not work and required an x64 version :) Nice and I have noticed the zippinness also :)

Why are you planning on installing all these Antivirus Softwares

Eset NOD 32 AV
Avira IS 2013
KIS 2013

-- I only listed the AV/Suite becuase at that time I have not decided yet what to use on this assembly. I usually would one AV + firewall as realtime protection and Malwarebytes or HitmanPro as on-demand. I have KIS2013 license but I'm reserving that for my new laptop :) For this one (2 partitions) it's:

(1st partition) Eset NOD32 AV ver6 + Emsisoft Online Armor Premium as realtime and Malwarebytes as on-demand.
(2nd partition) Emsisoft Internet Security Pack and Malwarebytes as on-demand.

I will give this one to my son when I am done doing some tests by late next week. Please mark this one as solved :) You guys are great :)

Thanks all :)
