Xbox 360 GamePad wired/wired PC version difference?

Could anybody here tell me if there is a difference between the standard wired Xbox 360 control and the one labelled as being for both PC and Xbox 360, just the prices are slightly different?

Here are the two I mention:

Standard Xbox 360 Wired
Wired Gamepad - Black (Xbox 360): Amazon.co.uk: PC & Video Games

For Windows (PC)
Microsoft Xbox 360 Common Controller for Windows - Black (PC): Amazon.co.uk: PC & Video Games

Also, it might be worth saying I'm in the market for a PC controller and would be open to any suggestions...I mainly want it for playing emulators for the SNES/N64/Mega Drive; however I would still want it for other games. I've had a SNES USB copy which didn't work and think I've ruled out Logitech on the grounds of ergonomics.

cheers :D

I use a Logitech dual action for emulators and it works pretty good. Unfortunately that's all it's good for. Playing modern PC games with it is horrible. You're wise to stay away. I mean...square analog stick holes...why?

As for the Xbox controllers, as far as I know, the PC one just comes with the correct drivers, whereas the Xbox one you have to fetch them off the internet. I could be wrong though.

The only difference is the 360 Controllers marked with the Windows Logo, have a revised firmware that allows them to communicate with the PC and the 360.
Some of the older 360 controllers may have issues working with the PC due to this, although some report they had no issues getting it working.

If you intend to use this on your PC, make sure it has the Windows Logo, this way you are certain it will be problem free.
And Yes, it will also work on the 360 without issue.

If you are looking for a gamepad, I would recommend them.

They are truly plug and play (at least the wired ones) Ive had a very good experience from mine and it just works as it should, with very few games requiring it to be configured.

The only issue is some older games, like FEAR for example.
Youll need to map out all the buttons manually. And the L/R triggers do not want to work. But everything else does.

I can not comment on how well emulators work with it though. Never tried them.

i too use a wireless xbox controller and i have a rechargeable battery so i also never run out ,at £9 for a battery it makes sense you will spend that in 2 months of heavy game playing on AA's easily.
also i used a wired 360 controller from xbox and plugged in it found the drivers no problem and away i went.

by all means try a........

"360 afterglow" if you want to spend more money for a unofficial prodouct AND thats a wired product AND you will still also need a wireless receiver on top of that also, so if u wanna spend an extra £10 or $8 if u will......go for it.

Come on peeps, this is no place for an argument, the wired one is cheaper than chips(fries), I own a wireless receiver and a wireless pad and they both work flawlessly, however, I'd purchase an externally powered hub if you plan to use a webcam and a USB headset at the same time, otherwise you'll get out of bandwidth errors on your USB controller(OS)

What are you trying to say here? I'll get Bandwidth errors plugging them all to the PC, but if I use a powered Hub that is also plugged into the PC that I'll have no Bandwidth errors? That doesn't make any sense.

I think my R3E should have enough ports for me not to overload anything bandwidth wise, I mean if you have two controls with keypads, plus headsets on your Xbox's front ports, its fine. I think maybe what you're alluding to, is using under powered ports, as a posed to a lack of bandwidth...the kind of issue you get with unpowered USB hubs and dodgy front panel designs on cheap cases.
As for which control, I think it's definitely going to be an Xbox control I go for after the positive things you guys have said; plus others on the web. However do people think the generally sidelined directional pad will be up to constant use in SNES emulators etc? Also I am keen on getting the wireless dongle but can't really say I've found one for a respectable price that I am 100% sure is real (lots about it should be labelled Microsoft on the device, not Xbox360).

I personally just prefer the Wired version.
Less hassle, no need for batteries. Just plug it in and start gaming in seconds.

Plus, the cable is pretty long, and Ive never had a need to have it longer, or go wireless.

But thats just me. Im sure others that prefer the wireless version have thier reasons as well.

I replaced my dying wired controller with a 'for Windows' wireless version. Aside from the cord (derp) the biggest difference is that the rumble on the wired is arguably a tad stronger than the wireless counterpart. Other than that there is virtually no difference.

As for wired 360 controllers, it doesn't have to be labelled as 'for Windows' in order for it to work.

That 2nd amazon link has the wrong image. I'd say the 2nd link is the wireless version which includes the receiver. (The receiver is where the 'For Windows' part comes into it.

By the way Im not being corrected .But belive what you want either way it works

Whole point of this is to give you choices if you don't like them don't have to buy it and like i said again Licensed meaning they had a hand in it period

Just cause microsoft isn't written everywhere means nothing The Logo is there that is good enough

As far as it being a knock off you are wrong lots of companies make products and slap other names on them and make the product cheaper to buy

If you ever worked in retail or any kind of industry you would know this don't mind me though i only worked Retail for 12 years and managed but i clearly have no idea of the business according to you

But once again not argueing just proving a point ,

Anyway like it was said before noone is holding a gun to you to buy it you want to throw away more money just for the name and for a wireless reciver that you really don't need to use go ahead this is all about options

I mean how far back you plan on being pretty much your just being ridiculous

one more thing you are looking it up from a different area of the world that does make a difference too !

ooooooooooooook
not sure what your on about i didn't mention the fact that it was a licensed 3rd party product in that post.

and yes i am aware of 3rd party products put themselves onto the market, even though again i didn't say anything about it, u'll never beat the original.

and sorry solarstarsunshines, can you not understand the concept of one price being higher than the other?

and sorry yes u do need a wireless receiver the fact u can do this for £2 more than what you was saying i find that completely acceptable.

also i plan on going as far back as less than a week ago? is that to far for you or something? i don't see how that is ridiculous.

and YES you are 100% correct so before you make a comment of (urghh its 60 "Bucks") you should take a point to notice the user is British so you have just gone against your own point, and giving out information that isn't suitable to that user.
so i reiterate
a wired 3rd party product for £18.60
or
a original wireless product, with a 2nd piece of hardware completely (receiver) for £20

dont worry mate, we all make mistakes, just dont let this one get you down
i've wasted enough time with explaining how things work to you, so leave it before somebody looses then an eye, then nobody is laughing are they.
