XBox Live through computer (network help!)

Alright, so. I recently acquired a VERY gently used Xbox 360 Elite, which I have sitting next to my computer, using my main monitor for it (just need to hit the source button )

Now, being that the Wireless adapters run at $50 (WAAAAAY too much), and my router is on the other side of the house, I was looking for a way to connect to XBL.

I successfully achieved this by bridging my Local Area Connection (XBox is connected to comp with a Cat5) and my Wireless Connection (802.11N).
However, the bridge tutorial that I saw here had this:

You should not create a bridge between an Internet connection and a network connection because it creates an unprotected link between your network and the Internet, which makes your network accessible to anyone on the Internet.

So, would this mean that I SHOULD NOT bridge my LAN and Wireless connections (even though I have a modem to wireless router, to computer then XBox)? Or is it safe?

Now secondly, I know about the shared internet connection thing. When I enabled it on my LAN, the wireless could not connect to ANY network. I finally did a diagnose, and it now works correctly. However, the XBox cannot connect like this.
I am thoroughly confused!

i think that's little dangerous if you made bridge connect between network and internet.
that's means internet allowed to the network. that's must be don't safe.

That is why I wanted to try another way to connect.

1.Open Network Connections by clicking the Start button , and then clicking Control Panel. In the search box, type adapter, and then, under Network and Sharing Center, click View network connections.

2.Right-click the connection that you want to share, and then click Properties. If you're prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.

3.Click the Sharing tab, and then select the Allow other network users to connect through this computer’s Internet connection check box.

Using ICS (Internet Connection Sharing)

Then just fire on your Xbox while it's connected to your computer and it should work.

I have a cheap solution. For my original Xbox and PS2, I use an adapter that's basically a Wifi receiver, but takes a LAN cable between the console and itself. You program it via computer software for your SSID. I've also read that you can use the original Xbox wireless adapter (which is basically like what I described) too.

It's compatible with anything that takes a standard LAN cable, even a PC.

Ryo, I know how to configure the XBox, it is Windows I don't know how to fix!
Ah well, I will work it some more tomorrow when I have more time.

Haha. I know a friend with a broken one. He claimed he would give it to me, and if I fixed it, I could keep it.
He never did, but it would have been fun (I thought I could fix it too).

If he ever does, maybe I will send that one over. Then you can tell me exactly what to do!

I keep reading Threads like this; trying to use ICS for some other device to connect to the Internet. As of yet I have not seen anyone get it to work correctly. Maybe they get a connection but then ports are blocked, or only part of it works, or they cannot connect to the server but can see the internet. The list goes on and on.

Your best way to get this to work it to connect the device directly by Ethernet wire or wireless. (Hardwire or use the wireless device PF recommended). This way you do don’t compromise your machine, security or firewall. The setup is simple and easy to move or reconfigure as needed. – Just my 2 cents.

Ok, I figured it out!

Here are the steps:
-Enable ICS on your INTERNET connection (in my case, the wireless network)
-Plug in your XBox (Does NOT require a crossover)
-Test connection.

Mine works great now.

I completely understand, but if it does not work or doesn't work correctly, then it seems a moot point. I think the Wireless option PF recommended was only $37, that is extremely inexpensive and you have be best of all worlds, no wires, complete security on your computer, and easy configuration.

I give you kudos if you want to figure it out and get it working. If you do then you can post a new tutorial on it

I was able to get ICS to work with my mobile broadband modem...all I had to do was enable it. Although I do have to disconnect and reconnect before I fire up my Xbox.

I just got it figured out this morning (thus the check and my last post).

I don't mind looking at alternate solutions, but this was really only going to be a problem for a little while more. In my dorm I would just plug it into the wall instead (don't need to now), while here I don't have that option.
Plus, I really didn't want to spend money.
