I have recently bought a radeon hd 5770 1gb card and when I'm playing music it stops playing for about 1 second and in game the computer locks up and a text box comes up on the desktop saying the graphics have been reset and I'm wondering if this can be caused by my power supply, that's what iv read on other forums but I want to know what the problem could be.

Just a thought but according to this your Raidmax power supply is a little on the weak side not to mention ( please no offense) it's not one of the better quality supplies.

According to this guide your 5770 requires a minimum of 650 watts(which I think is a little high) but you also have to remember it's not so much the wattage as it is the output on the +12 volt rail(s).
Also purchasing a power supply with a minimum of a 80% efficiency rating is important. http://www.sevenforums.com/graphic-cards/135087-planning-upgrade-your-graphics-card-read-first.html

It has always been my opinion that when building a system the last place you should look to save money is your power supply, after all it is probably one of the most important pieces of hardware in your system. It is responsible for running everything all the time without fluctuation.

Yeah i was thinking it was the power supply, i built this comp up over time and my case came with a power supply and never had a problem till now, so whats a good power supply to get do you think.

You could try a few things first before buying a power supply.

Uninstall the whole CCC package then download and install the newest one from here and then reboot your pc.

Set all the 3D settings in the CCC to perfrmance and under the overclocking bit in the CCC software unlock it and pull the slider for the memory down to 1000.

Still doing it but not as much as before.

OK theres a few more things you can try if you are comfortable using the bios.

Go into your bios at startup and there should be a performance tab where you can set your fsb to a lower number, give your cpu a lower multiplier and set your ram at a lower speed.

By doing the above and having your graphics card underclocked you are placing less stress on your system and should have a stable system to play with. Dont do anything in the BIOS if you are unsure though.

Next download HWmonitor and have it running when playing a game. This will show you, your tempetares and voltage readings of your pc at idle and under load.

Next post a screenshot of that programme after you have finished playing or it crashes so we can see if there are any problems.

450W actually, you quoted the Crossfire recommendation. ;)

I do agree that his power supply is on the weak side, and if the specs for it listed here,

POWER SUPPLY - HIGH PERFORMANCE

I'm surprised it runs at all. According to that it only has 14A on the 12V rail; might be enough (barely) for when the card is at idle, but put a load on it and things will start to act up fast.

Have a multimeter handy? Might want to check that 12V reading,

PSU Test - How to Manually Test a Power Supply With a Multimeter - Test PSU

as if it is anywhere close to the ~10V, then you really need a new power supply. You cannot rely on software for this, and manually checking is the only wya to really see what it is. Ideally it should be +/- 5%, any more or less and you can start having stability issues.

Sorry Fab but the HD 5770 need a minimal 450 watt psu ,,I have the card and box in front of me here ....

I do agree though about the PSu i ran a 600 watt psu with that card and also my 6870 with the same psu .but in turn i did upgrade it last month . ....

Anyway like Fabe was saying maybe a higher psu one certified might be of better interest and also the drivers for any hd card really suck right now

with the exception of 11.1 /with a moded 11.1 a hotfix will maintain it's stability this is just comming from someone with the card in question also failed to mention mine is DIAMOND brand

Just so everyone knows I quoted off Punksters guide and did overlook the crossfire fact so my apologies for that.
No wonder it looked a litttle high to me.
